Well, I bought this can opener about a year ago when I moved into my new home. I purchased it at Wal-Mart at a very reasonable price. I thought that the price matched how good the product would be. I was wrong. At first, the appliance worked fine. I was impressed with it's ability to open the can with little physical effort(cause let's face it, everyone hates those hand held, manual ones) and not leave a sharp edge(which was my main concern since I had a 2 yr. old). After about a month, the can opener started leaving little slivers of metal on the counter. Once, I got one of the shards stuck in my finger and had to resort to tweezers to get it out. Within the last three months, the opener no longer works. I still have to semi-use it because I do not have a manual opener yet. What I have to do is; let the appliance cut the outer layer of metal, which takes about three to five rotations. Then, I have to get a bottle opener and pry the top off, which becomes very hard to do it the metal is thick on the can. I wouldn't recommend this appliance to anyone who wants something to actually work. If it is only temporary, then you might want to purchase this item. However, you must be prepared to wipe up slivers of metal every time after opening a can.
