| tpao67's Full Review: Rival SafeTech Can Opener CN795-W |
I was doing my normal surfing for freebies and coupons when I came across a $20 off for first customers at Ourhouse.com. I quickly wrote down the code and headed to the website. Ourhouse.com is a hardware store that carries a little bit of everything. My first thought was HMMMM! let's see if they have can openers since my old one is about dead. They did have can openers and a lot of them. I checked them all out and finally decided on the Rival SafeTech Can Opener. This can opener seemed to be perfect. It expounded on the fact of it being extremely safe due to the fact that there were no sharp edges.
When the can opener arrived I was thrilled. I used it that very day and was still thrilled. This wonderful feeling of euphoria over a can opener lasted approximately four months. It was at that point that I started having trouble with this aggravating can opener.
My first bad experience with this can opener was with a can of green beans. I placed the can in it's proper place and proceeded to mash down the bar on top, the can went around one time and NOTHING. I took a look at the can and it was not open, however, I noticed that it seemed to have a fairly thick rim so I tried again. Well, this time it worked. This continued with every can thereafter, each time taking one more extra turn to get a can open. It now takes about fifty turns just to open one can.
The fact that it takes forever to open a can is not the only problem I have with this appliance. While opening a can metal shavings are dropped every where. I am not talking about just on the counter but inside the can as well. Personally, I would rather not have the added metal in my diet. So, not only am I standing there forever opening the can but I am also taking up valuable time having to pick metal shavings out of whatever I am going to cook.
The Rival SafeTech Can Opener sounds good and the people at Rival have a wonderful idea in trying to make a can opener that doesn't have sharp edges, however this one doesn't work. They need to go back to the drawing board and try again. This can opener is definitely NOT one that I would recommend to anyone. I have quit using it and if I can remember the next time I am out shopping I intend on picking up another standard electric can opener.
