As I have only been able to go to the beach about once every two years or so lately, I can never find my beach hats when I need them. So, I ordered this hat from Isabella to take with me to the beach this year.
This hat has a UPF (ultraviolet protection factor) textile that has been tested at California Polytechnic State University and found to have a UPF that blocks 98% of the sun's radiation.
My skin is fair and burns fairly easily. Even though I do wear sunblock, my nose always winds up bright red after a day in the sun. This hat is supposed to have the equivalent of an SPF of 50 and I believe it. The neutral-colored woven hat held up to wind and water (kept its shape even after a couple of unexpected dunks in the pool -- the textile is made from a blend that includes paper, but it seems very durable) and the wide brim kept my face, ears, neck, upper chest and shoulders from burning. It even looks good, too!
I definitely recommend a good sun hat as a required beach basic and this one fits the bill and should hold up to many more trips to the beach and days in the sun.
