Warning: Take Caution While Using This Product
Written: Aug 15 '06
Pros:Colors, Design, Price
Cons:Unreliable heavy frame, hazard to ride, weak components, weary tires, cheap parts and accessories
The Bottom Line: Please look into other bikes. Roadmaster Mt. Fury is not worth it. You deserve better! You can find better bikes at a affordable price that fits your budget! Reasearch!
Back in the older days, Roadmaster was quite popular and had built better bikes. But now, as newer and more expensive bikes have been developed, competition has arrived. However, Roadmaster is not about quality or durability anymore. It's two true goals are to make the design attractive and cool looking, and the price should be very appealing. This has become a success.
*However, a fact to keep in mind; "You Get What You Pay For."*
I'm 18 years old now, and I can't tell you how much experience I've had with many different bicycles. One specific brand I'm very experienced with is Roadmaster Mt. Fury. I'm sorry to say I'm quite disgusted in what Roadmaster bikes have become today. I don't mean be so blunt about it, but I believe it's important for you to know that 'safety' is the most important factor when deciding which bicycle you will buy.
My Experience: 'Here It Goes:
I was so excited when I finally had enough money saved up to by myself a really nice bike after my previous had got stolen. As I made my way to the local Wal-Mart store, I was determined I would find the perfect bike. After scanning the aisles I made my way to the bike department.
And there it was, a brand new ladie's Mt. Fury Roadmaster bike that I was practically dreaming about. No doubt about it because I bought it right there and then. After about a week, I decided to go on a little longer ride. So I took the paved trail.
As I was going downhill, I stood up and began to pedal faster. However, the force of my weight (114 lbs.), pushed the Roadmaster pedal right out of the socket. As a result, I lost my footing and I plowed in the bar below. To make a long story short, I went to the ER, had a major laceration inside my groin area that required stitches, and I split my pubic bone (fracture) right down the middle.
I later found out that the bike was not put together properly, but even if it was, the parts on it were so cheaply made, it would of gave way sooner or later.
As you probably figured out by now, I don't ride Roadmasters anymore.
Besides my little accident, I have other reasons.
They Are:
1) They are made of heavy unreliable steel, nearly weighing up to 50 lbs! (That's a lot of extra weight to carry around don't you think?)
2) The Torque-drive derailers on this bike don't shift well, and often slip out of gear and could potentially cause a dangerous accident.
3) The tires are fairly knobby but they wear easy, even if you do light riding. They are actually really heavy as well. That don't help much when you are attempting to climb a hill.
4) The brakes often stick, however, if you adjust them frequently, they will work well.
5) SAFETY HAZARD (#1 REASON) They are unsafe and not very fun to ride. Please examine this bike if you choose to purchase it before you buy it. I do however, STRONGLY urge you not to purchase this bike because I know you can find something of better quality, that's nice looking, and of a good price. Safety is important. Especially if you are purchasing this for a child. TAKE CAUTION...PLEASE!

MY OPINION:
Well, personally I would never purchase one of these again. Steer clear from Roadmaster bikes, including this Mt. Fury. I wouldn't neccessarily reccomend any department bike, but, they are some 'okay' bikes they sell there that may be worth looking at if you are determined to purchase a bike under a $100.00.
ADVICE:
Well, if you are certainly going to purchase a Roadmaster Mt. FURY because of the price, let me tell you a little secret:
You can purchase a Trek 820 for approximately 100-150$, a Giant Boulder SE 100-160$, GT Bike for nearly $100, depending on the type of riding you want to do. These may be of lower grade bikes but they have a lot better parts on them and they are assembled well to keep you and children safe. There are a variety of choices out there, and you don't have to pay a big price to have a name brand bike.
I Can Promise YOU THAT! I hope you think wisely before making this decision. Remember the factors and don't jump on it like I did. Please examine this bike, as I said before, if you purchase it and make sure it is assembled well and rides and functions properly.
You DESERVE TO BE SAFE. (*Always wear a helmet!*)
Good Luck!
