The geology around UTEP is similar to that around Tucson, where I got my MS (U of Arizona), In fact, one of my fellow grad students now teaches at UTEP (Dr. Anthony, unless she's re-married).
Westernmost Texas is certainly the most interesting place on the surface, plus the climate's a lot more bearable than the eastern part (at least to me).
Thanks for the visit -- and pick up a copy if you head back to El Paso for homecoming!

I took a couple of geology courses at UT El Paso (Reply to this comment)

while I was living in West Texas, this book would have been very helpful. All of our field trips were to roadside locales and there was an incredible and almost unbelievable variety in the geology of the high desert country around El Paso. I enjoyed your thorough and comprehensive review, in fact it inspired a desire to return to the rugged West Texas country (roadside guide in hand) and re-explore some of the incredible geologic diversity of the region.
Thanks for the inspiration.

But Peter, it wasn't an official entry, so yours is still the last -- I haven't even mentioned it to either tipu or hypotenuse...
Thanks for the visit -- and the praise. You still hold the title for last (and, as far as I know, best).
Cheers! BTW, would you like to buy a used snow shovel? it's only been used for shoveling leaves off our driveway...

Well, I haven't seen him in eight or ten years, so I only kinda know him these days. I also kinda know the guy who wrote the Wyoming and Yellowstone volumes... but this is a relatively small field.
Speaking of knowing authors, you need to resend me that link to our book... I lost it somehow.
Thanks for the visit.

Dammit, Rex (Reply to this comment)

There is another reason that it would be a treat if the publisher split the book into two, although apparently your modesty prevents you from enumerating it. If it were two volumes, we'd be treated to two helpings of your incisive and comprehensive critique.
But I have a complaint: Couldn't you have left a superlative for me? I knew that you'd make a strong showing for "best" in the write-off that tipu organized (loosely) for Hypotenuse's birthday, but I thought I had "last" locked up.
Best wishes,
Peter

to know the author. I agree the book would be better in two halves, but sounds interesting for a non Texan, anyway.
