| Kittyokc's Full Review: Robitussin Cough Drops Bag Cherry - 1 Bag |
With the fall season upon us, not only do I get my normal allergy/sinus problems, but I also find myself getting a sore throat and that annoying tickling cough. Mine is usually due to the fact that I get all stuffed up at night and then drain slowly once I get up for the day, irritating my throat. This happens practically every year with the changing weather, so I've come to expect it, this year it hit earlier than normal since we've had some cooler weather move in, going from 90's to 70's will wreak havoc with your sinuses.
Enter Robitussin Cherry Cough Drops, these little red cough drops will help soothe my sore throat and calm down that annoying tickling cough. It won't completely get rid of my sore throat, but it will help sooth it enough where it isn't too bothersome and the taste isn't anywhere near as bad as the liquid cough medicines. I hate taking liquid medicine and I only turn to it as a last resort, I just can't stand the taste of that stuff.
According to the bag, Robitussin Cherry Cough Drops is intended to temporarily relieve minor irritation, pain, sore mouth, sore throat and coughs associated with a cold.
The key here is minor, if you have a really bad sore throat, it won't work and you should see a doctor, because it's probably due to something more serious than a cold. If your cough and sore throat are minor and is due to a normal cold, Robitussin Cherry Cough Drops will help, it may not make your sore throat go away completely, but it will give you some relief.
As with all medications, Robitussin Cherry Cough Drops has the standard warnings. Ask your doctor first if you are pregnant or nursing, have a cough that is due to too much phlegm, have a cough due to asthma, smoking or emphysema.
There is one part of the warnings that appears to contradict each other, under the sore throat warning it warns you if you have a fever, headache, etc., along with the sore throat to consult a doctor, which makes sense, but it also says not to use it for more than 2 days or to give to children under the age of 3. All of this makes sense, but then you get to another portion of the label under warnings where it says to Stop use and ask a doctor if cough lasts for more than 7 days.... As you can see it is unclear whether you can take it safely for more than 2 days. I would say to ask your doctor or pharmacist if you feel you need to take it for more than 2 days, my sore throat is usually gone within a couple of days, so I've never had the need to take it longer than that.
The directions for taking the cough drops is clear, take one drop and let it dissolve in your mouth and repeat every two hours as needed for a sore throat, or every hour as needed for a cough. I usually stick with the every two hour because my main problem is always the sore throat more than the cough. Robitussin Cherry Cough Drops can be taken by adults and children age four and older. I would think it would be difficult to get a 4 or 5 year old to just suck on the drop instead of biting into it, my kids didn't really start using cough drops until they were about 6 or 7 years old.
The taste isn't the most pleasant thing in the world, but it sure beats taking liquid cough medicine. You still get that menthol flavor, since the active ingredient is Menthol, USP 5 mg, but you also have a cherry flavor along with it which makes it more bearable compared to the liquid cough medicine and it won't make you gag. Once you take it and the drop starts dissolving, you should start feeling some relief, at least with the sore throat, you will definitely get relief before it finishes dissolving.
I definitely recommend you try Robitussin Cherry Cough Drops if you have a minor sore throat, with or without the cough, it will help relieve your sore throat symptoms enough so you can go about your daily routine, plus the bag is convenient enough to carry in your purse if you're going to be out all day.
