Pros:kept cough away but didn't clear up congestion well, taste wasn't too bad
Cons:small bottle for $4.99, wasn't effective enough, need to take every 4 hours
The Bottom Line: Robitussin Cough and Congestion doesn't last long enough to help with your congestion but does assist keeping your cough away.
This is certainly the time for cold and flu season, and I have been battling a cold off and on for a while now. This morning I woke up and though my chest was going to explode and I couldn't stop coughing either throughout my sleep. I am limited to what I can take for colds or the flu due to other medications that I currently take. Robitussin is one of the few companies that my doctor says I am allowed to take. Following her orders, I have been using Robitussin Cough and Congestion for the past week.

Robitussin Cough and Congestion came in a box with a small bottle of 4 fl. oz. or 118 mL. It had its own plastic cup wrapped around the cap of the bottle. The cap is very small compared to other over the counter medicine like Nyquil. The cup is a little taller than an inch (1") and at its widest diameter a bit longer than an inch (1").
The bottle was sealed closed of course but was easy to open. You just have to screw the cap off. I would make Robitussin Cough and Congestion out of reach of any children since it does not have a safety seal on it. Anyone can just unscrew the cap off of the bottle with little problem. It does state that it is "packaged with tamper-evident bottle cap," but once open it isn't really tamper-proof in my opinion for young kids.

~Warnings~ (taken from bottle)
Do not use if you are now taking a prescription monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (certain drugs for depression, psychiatric, or emotional conditions, or Parkinson's disease), or for 2 weeks after stopping the MAOI drug. If you do not know if your prescription drug contains an MAOI, ask a doctor or pharmacist before taking this product.
~My Experience and Recommendations~
As an adult you are only allowed two (2) teaspoons per every four (4) hours of Robitussin Cough and Congestion. You cannot take more than six (6) doses in a twenty-four (24) hour period. An adult is considered anyone who is twelve years or older. Since you are only taking two (2) teaspooons it may seem like very little medicine; at least for me it did.
You are to shake up the bottle before using. I am not quite sure why since Robitussin Cough and Congestion is extremely thick in liquid. It comes out very slowly and is hard to measure because once you get it to start, it doesn't stop so easily. It can be kind of a pain to put into the cup as well because the divider line for each teaspoon is almost non-existent. It is very difficult to see and you have to hold it up to the light.
The Robitussin Cough and Congestion medicine is a bright pink color and tastes to me like bitter cherry. I didn't mind the taste at all compared to other cold or flu over the counter medicine that I have taken in the past. I don't think children would complain too much with the taste since they are allowed to take it. The bottle has clear instructions as to how much a child depending on their age can take of Robitussin Cough and Congestion. Any child under two (2) years old needs to be consulted by a physician like most cold medicines.
One of the reasons that I like Robitussin's products is that most of them are Alcohol-Free. I don't have to worry about getting drowsy if I need to do such tasks as cutting vegetables to make some soup for dinner. With most people it would be for driving purposes which to many I would think is a benefit.
Robitussin Cough and Congestion claims on the bottle that it "temporarily relieves cough due to minor throat and bronchial irritation as may occur with a cold; helps loosen phlegm (mucus) and thin bronchial secretions to drain bronchial tubes." It is considered part of their "Congestion" line which also include "Chest Congestion and Head & Chest Congestion." Although it is supposed to help loosen phlegm, they do warn you to contact your doctor if there is too much phlegm. I found this to be confusing with the labeling. How much is too much or right?
My main complaint with Robitussin Cough and Congestion is that it did not relieve my congestion adequately. My cough was suppressed which was nice, but I still felt congestion throughout my body. In fact, I don't believe that my congestion eased at any point that I have taken this medication. Luckily it hasn't been that poor until I woke up today where it was unbearable. I found that throughout the morning into the afternoon that Robitussin Cough and Congestion was not helping my symptoms enough. I was more concerned at this point with my congestion than my cough. I felt that I needed to go purchase something stronger to help me with my cold.
Robitussin Cough and Congestion comes in a small bottle, even though you aren't using as much as you would with other over the counter medicines. However, it doesn't last very long as far as quantity. I found myself having to spend $4.99 more than once this week to keep up with my cold. I was disappointed with the final results especially waking up today feeling so miserable.
Robitussin Cough and Congestion does relieve coughs but did not help at all when it came to any congestion problems that I had. I would not recommend this medicine based on that reason. There are so many different over the counter flu and cold medications that you can buy these days. Robitussin Cough and Congestion didn't pass the test and I won't be buying it again.
