Pros: Works fast. Allows you to get to sleep. Tastes good. Cherry flavor. No alcohol.
Cons: It expires before I finish the bottle but that is also a good thing.
I’ve had some doozie of a cold coughs in my time. The worst one was when I lived in Los Angeles, California. I couldn’t get any sleep from the constant coughing that was probably allergy related since it was Springtime. My doctor recommended ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant and I have been a believer ever since.
I couldn’t believe how fast this cough medicine worked. It seemed immediate. It coated my throat and stopped my cough completely so I could get sleep, blissful sleep. Sleep and rest is what you need when you have a cold and I wasn’t getting any until I used ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant. If you feel sick and you’re not getting sleep on top of that, then you feel even worse!
ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant is a non-drowsy formula so you will stay awake if you want to but if you want to sleep, it won’t keep you awake.
ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant helps your body to cough more effectively, loosening and thinning mucous. As a suppressant, it controls your cough reflex. The “DM” in ROBITUSSIN DM stands for Dextromethorphan.
From the ROBITUSSIN website:
“If your cough is productive, meaning that you are coughing up mucous, you shouldn’t try to completely stop it, because your body needs to get rid of that mucous. However, you can make your coughs more productive and under your control so they are less bothersome. A non-prescription cough medicine with an expectorant and cough suppressant, such as certain Robitussin® products, will help by keeping the mucous secretions liquid and easily expelled while the cough suppressant helps you bring your cough under greater control.”
Active Ingredients (in each 5ml teaspoon):
Dextromethorphan HBr 10mg (cough suppressant)
Guafenisen 100mg (expectorant)
Adults 12 and older - Two teaspoons every four hours as needed for cough. Do not take more than six doses in 24 hours.
Children ages six to 12 - One teaspoon every four hours. Do not take more than six doses in 24 hours.
Children ages two to six - One half (1/2) teaspoon every four hours. Do not take more than six doses in 24 hours.
Children under age two - Ask your doctor.
Nausea, dizziness, and drowsiness infrequently occur. The expectorant portion usually does not cause side effects.
I found I didn’t need to take a dose every four hours if I was asleep. I could manage six hours sometimes. During the daytime I had to follow the usual dosage.
My nasal drip was what was causing my constant cough. You’ll often see me with a tissue in my hand and I’ve always got one in my pocket when I work out because working out seems to make my nose run! The good news is that working out has made me healthier. I don’t get sick as often but when I do catch a bug and it develops into a nagging cough, I reach for ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant.
I’ve tried Mucinex D and that worked but I found that I had to drink a lot of water otherwise I would cough more! Doctors advise that you drink a lot of water (or soup) when you have a cold anyway because it helps to thin out your mucous. However, I much prefer ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant.
Make sure you check the expiration date on the box. If the date has past its expiration date, don’t buy it. ROBITUSSIN DM – Cough Suppressant & Expectorant is available everywhere. If it isn’t available at your store, they probably ran out. The 4 oz bottle runs around $4.74.
