The last cold that went through the house knocked us all for a wallop. The worst was me and the tightness I felt in my chest which actually frightened me. Not enough to go to the doctor or hospital, mind you, but enough that I was afraid of that eventuality. To combat that, I turned to the first name I think of when it comes to coughing and chest congestion. That name is Robitussin. I’ve tried the store-brands indicating the same formula as the various Robitussin formulas, and they just haven’t proven to be quite as effective. This time I chose Robitussin Head & Chest Congestion PE Syrup. I had a runny nose to a certain degree, but was more concerned about what was going on in my chest. I wanted to cough and get whatever was down there out of my chest before it got worse. This formula helps to loosen phlegm and thin out the bronchial secretions to help make the coughs more productive. At the same time, it relieves nasal congestion due to the common cold. The dosage instructions are adults and children over 12 take 2 teaspoons every four hours. If I wanted to give it to my kids, the instructions are to take 1 teaspoon every four hours for ages 6 through 12, and children 2 to 6 take ½ teaspoon every four hours. This is good because it’s a formula to keep around for the entire family to use. The active ingredients in Robitussin Head & Chest Congestion PE Syrup are Guaifenesin, 100 mg as an expectorant and Phenylephrine HCl, 5 mg as a nasal decongestant. Like many other formulas, Robitussin has reformulated many of it’s medicines to take out the pseudoephedrine and keep it on the shelves rather than behind the pharmacy counter. I’ve found that in general the medicines with phenylephrine aren’t as effective as the old formulas, although they do provide a decent amount of relief, even if not perfect. I took the recommended dosage over the period of about a week, interspersing with other medications to try and remain a productive individual. I do have to say that Robitussin Head & Chest Congestion PE Syrup did do an amazing job helping my body to clear itself of the congestion in my chest. I didn’t have to go for more medication or more treatment, which is a plus as someone who wants to avoid doctors as much as possible. I was also afraid of him telling me that I needed rest, and at this point I didn’t want to be told to take a week off from work. Although I try a lot of different cold medicines based on having coupons and sales, there is one thing I don’t mess with and that’s when a cold gets serious. At that time I turn to names I trust and Robitussin is one of those. It has never disappointed me and in this case it helped me avoid having to take prescription medication for a potentially serious condition. Is my method of self-treatment for everyone? No, and I wouldn’t recommend it. But if you feel congestion in your chest starting to affect you, taking Robitussin Head & Chest Congestion PE Syrup can help. If symptoms get worse or you have additional symptoms such as fever, rash or persistent headaches you should seek treatment from a medical professional. Robitussin is a name I continue to hold in high regard. It cleared my chest when I needed it. When I don’t want to fool around with symptoms of cough or chest congestion, I turn to them. Specifically in the case of chest congestion, I would turn to Robitussin Head & Chest Congestion PE Syrup. This medicine is approved for purchase with a FSA (flexible spending account).
