Pros: Affordable?
Cons: Soft and sticky
The Bottom Line: Soft, sticky and unreliable in demanding conditions. You have better options than the Judy C.

| sammy_marvelle's Full Review: Rock Shox Judy C |
Thankfully the Judy C has been put out of its misery by Rock Shox. It was a cheap, sticky impersonation of a suspension fork.
The Judy C origianally surfaced as a cheap original equipment fork for manufacturers that wanted to give low to mid-range performance bikes some suspension. For some reason, popular demand made it so the C was available for aftermarket purchase for a short time, which to this day I will never understand.
The C had a lot of problems right out of the gate. It originally came stock with 63mm of travel which with the ultra-soft springs it came with was inevitably not enough. So Rock Shox decided to make an 80mm version to try to curb the problem. Unfortunately with the same result. The only way to firm up the ride is to install aftermarket springs which you can get from Rock Shox or from companies such as Mountain Speed.
Seals were also a problem with this particular fork. Problem being that they don't like to be used very much. In every Rock Shox manual it says to overhaul your fork and replace the seals about every 500 hours of rided time, but I found that unless I changed them every 200 hours, they would leak like a civ or begin to stick. You can change the oil out to a heavier weight which seems to help a little, but it certainly does very little to solve the problem.
Another thing is that there is a lot of lateral flex which is most noticable picking your way through technical singletrack. Rock Shox wanted to keep the weigh competetive with other forks, but couldn't come up with a plan to keep the C a little more rigid than a wet noodle.
You won't be able to find this fork on any new bikes (phew!) and if you find one for sale for anymore than free, I would look the other way.
