This wireless mouse has worked great

Written: Jan 03 '09 (Updated Jan 04 '09)
Pros:works well, great battery life
Cons:none
The Bottom Line: Well worth buying. This has made my computing easier/

I'd identified a wireless mouse as a need, since I have WAY too many cords all over my computer desktop and, in particular, the mouse cord was getting in the way.   So, I saw this unit, the Rocketfish 2.4gWireless Laser Mouse at Best Buy for under $40 in July and I bought it immediately.

I am using this mouse on a Dell Dimension PC I've had for about 4 years now.

Rocketfish is basically a house brand for BestBuy, although it does crop up elsewhere online. This was a bit less expensive than the branded wireless mice yet still had great features:

*It was billed as working 30' from wireless conneciion
*Precise laser technology which would work on any surface
*Zoom button
*4 programmable buttons
*resolution switch that toggles between 800 and 1600 dpi
*scroll wheel
*on-off button used to conserve battery power.
*comfortable rubber grip
*LED low battery indicator

In the box, it came with a driver cd, 2 AA batteries and the dongle (wireless connection unit) that plugs into a USB2 slot.

Installation was very easy. I installed the drivers from the CD, plugged the dongle in, put the batteries in the mouse, configured it and off I went. The configuration screens were easy to navigate and I was able to complete them quickly.

In use, it's been great. I use it as a standard mouse, and it's worked very well for me, even though I have been used to using trackballs. There has been no problem getting the mouse to point as specifically as I've needed. The zoom feature, which opens up a small window that zooms the section of the screen inside the window, is neat and I've used it fairly often. I haven't used the configurable buttons much.

My use is mostly web surfing and Microsoft-based programs. I'm not a hardcore gamer. What I need is a scrollable, functional, dependable mouse and this has done the job.

The battery life was a pleasant surprise. The reputation of wireless mice is that they use batteries quickly. At one point, I was turning the mouse off at night but I stopped doing that after a while, just to see how long the batteries would last. I haven't turned it off at night for months, but I have used up only one set of batteries (2 AA) since I bought it in July 2008. The low battery indicator is not now on.

I need technology to make things easuer for me. This has done the job.
