... I have your foundation! I'll start by saying that I don't own this, it belongs to my friend but I helped him choose it and listen to it quite a bit. In fact, it helped me decide to purchase a 10" Punch HE. Rockford makes one line better than this one but, for the life of me, I can't imagine how it would do any better. He's powering this with a Rockford Fosgate Power 500bd. A match made in heaven!
On the technical side, he has a home made box. It's 1 cubic foot and ported, the design follows exactly the instructions from Rockford and it pays off. Unlike some ported subs I've heard this one only sustains when it's supposed to, it's nice and tight otherwise. Where it really impresses is it's ability to stay clean and defined even at outrageously high listening levels. I don't have an spl but I know it was hitting over 125db and still sounded clean and defined.
The one caveat is that this thing needs power, and lots of it. He started out powering this with a 280 watt amp... he thermaled it several times! Give it what it wants and it'll give you what you want!
If you are going to compete you may want to look at a Power HX2, otherwise this is about as good as it gets.
