| carneys_ID's Full Review: Rocking Horse |
What kind of horse would you buy, if you could? How about one that was small enough for your children, didn't take up much space, didn't eat, didn't poop, and washed off with a hose? Then make sure to satisfy your kids' pony mania with a Little Tikes Rocking Horse.
Looks
From what I understand, the Little Tikes Rocking Horse comes in two colors: baby blue and teal green. Our stable (which also holds a variety of Little Tikes cars) contains the baby blue horse. While this is an unlikely color for a horse, it has stood up well to the rigors of outside living. Our horse went through one summer (last year), one winter, and is into it's second summer now with nary a fade mark on it. Granted, we bought the Little Tikes Rocking Horse secondhand, so any fading that may have occurred in it's earlier life wouldn't be noticed by us.
The Little Tikes Rocking Horse is approximately three feet long (give or take - it's outside and I'm not just now) with the head of a horse with a mane, two plastic covered hand holds on either side of the head, a built-in wide saddle with a high back, and a "running board" area for your Little Tikes feet. The tail, like the mane, is molded in blue plastic. The Little Tikes Rocking Horse has simple black and white eyes. It stands about 2 feet high and is an easy on, easy off toy for your toddler.
The plastic that the Little Tikes Rocking Horse is made from is very lightweight, yet retains that fantastic anti-fade property! (I wish more things were made with as much quality as all the Little Tikes toys I've run across.) My two year old can easily move her horse around on the cement or grass to be in the position that suits her best. The Little Tikes Rocking Horse is big enough to fit a child from about 12 or 18 months until 4 or 5 years of age. My tall-for-her-age four year old still fits on the horse, although it seems to be getting to be a tight fit for her legs.
No Worries?
I take care to pay attention to my wild-n-crazy K when she's galloping on her Little Tikes Rocking Horse, since she can be pretty rough and rash in her rocking. The base that the horse sits on seems wide enough to prevent her from tipping over, but I have seen how close she comes to the end of that base and it does make me nervous. I gently remind her to slow down and she will - for a few minutes. I must reiterate: I have NEVER seen this toy tip over during use, I'm merely watching her to assure myself of her safety.
Other Uses?
It is a rocking horse, so be careful and don't let your children copy what their father does (okay, what my husband does in front of the kids) with their Little Tikes Rocking Horse. My "darling" husband got the idea that our horse would make a great snow sled on some of the disintegrating hills of snow earlier this year. Luckily, he was standing right there with them and there wasn't much snow left. When Mommy found out what Daddy had taught the children, you can BET we had a serious talk about the difference between our 4 and 2 year old girl and our 8 year old nephew. Also, be careful that your children don't use their Little Tikes Rocking Horse as a step-stool to reach whatever is out of their grasp. It is an unstable toy and could be dangerous.
Pricing
The picture of the Little Tikes Rocking Horse says that it retails for roughly $23, but we found a bargain on our Little Tikes Rocking Horse at a secondhand store for only $2. Even though it was a pre-owned toy, our Little Tikes Rocking Horse is in premium condition and ready to be used for several more years and children.
Overall
We got a major bargain on a horse that doesn't eat, sleep, or relieve itself! As a Little Tikes toy, I'm assured of it's quality construction and know that even though it was a toy loved by someone before us, the Little Tikes Rocking Horse is still safe and ready to play on. At only $2, who could pass that up?!
You may visit the Little Tikes website at www.littletikes.com. Little Tikes (founded in 1970) is part of the Rubbermaid Corporation, owned by Newell, Inc. Many of their high quality children's toys are made right in their largest plant, located in Ohio.
