Pros: Big, strong, black, smooth, yummy.
Cons: Not for wimps.
This beer has absolutely everything. If you love Guinness, give it a try. You may become a devotee. It is an acquired taste, but it is worth acquiring. High in alcohol, big in malty flavor, filled with burnt grain flavor, made smooth with the use of mashed oatmeal, finished off with ample hops bitterness and flavor.
This beer has basically started a new style of beer. There is "Irish Dry Stout", like Guinness. There are "Sweet Stouts", like Mackeson XXX, some of which use milk sugar to sweeten it. There are "Oatmeal Stouts", which use oats to smoothen out the feel. Rogue Shakespeare Stout is a "Northwestern" stout, which is characterized by a substantial citrusy hop flavor at the end, a beautiful tribute to the great Pacific Northwest.
