Pros: Expansion Boards, ease-of-use/programming, High memory + removable 3.5" Disk, On-Board Effects, Arpeggiator
Cons: Weight, no digital/optical outs
The Bottom Line: This is an awesome machine with many powerful capabilities (too many to list). Worth the price and easy for first-timers. My only wish is that it had an onboard sampler.

| teamsporttrac's Full Review: Roland Xp-80 Workstation |
This is definitely the most awesome piece of equipment I own. Prior to the XP-80, I had the DR-660 and SP-202. Learning to effectively use/program the XP-80 was definitely a challenge and took some time, but it was an enjoyable process. I didn't have much experience with Roland products, but it was pretty easy to pick-up the workings of this machine.
After a while, I was bored with the plethora of built-in sounds (and the patches I had created), so I began adding sounds with expansion boards. These are a piece of cake to install; just turn the XP-80 over, remove some screws, and pop the board in and you're ready to go!
I've owned my XP for about 5 years and have had no problems with it. However, there is dust build-up in the volume slider (this is obvious from the static sounds and/or partial loss of sound while sliding the volume control). I will have this serviced soon, and suspect it is just a normal maintenance procedure (after 5 years of trouble-free use).
