#1 Crush by Rock Star Diva Shirley Manson

Written: Dec 31 '02 (Updated Nov 18 '03)
Pros:Lovely music.
Cons:Few songs are razors in the eardrums.
The Bottom Line: Good for listening to when you want to make out with your love, if you are into this kind of music.

Most of the songs have a rather romantic twist some how or another. I found some of the tracks rather annoying because of low quality sound but overall I enjoyed this soundtrack.

Track # / Title / Band

1. #1 Crush by Garbage

Sexy beats and moans is the intro of this song consisting of o---oo aah. Drilling the lyrics in with the timing of the beats and riffs. Probably the best song that Garbage has produced and is by far the most passionate song Shirley Manson has ever sang. However beautiful this song is, #1 Crush does leave an edge of obsessive love expressed.
Performance:5*

A Few Words From The Song

I would die for you
I would die for you
I've been dying just to
feel you next to my side
To know that you're mine
I would cry for you
I would cry for you
I would wash away your pain
with all my tears
And drown your fear

2. Local God by Everclear

Local God by Everclear seems to almost be an entirely different band because they sound like a garage rock band rather than the typical pop style. The lead singer clearly identifies it as an Everclear production.
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

You do that Romeo
Be what you want to be
Looks like you're running in place
Do that stupid dance for me

3. Angel by Gavin Friday

Angel comes across as a man professing his love through singing this song with tender, but yet passionate in a gentle voice that borders on sounding feminine
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

Angel
Hold on to me
Or come closer
To me
Don't go
Don't leave me

4. Pretty Piece of Flesh by One Inch Punch

Electric guitar riffs that is unreal from the excellent tunes run together, but I really dislike the continuous echo tweak on the voice done through out the entire song.
Performance:3*

A Few Words From The Song

I will split you in two
Say
Say boo
I strike quickly before
You all
You all know
Stars collide

5. Kissing You by Des'ree

I like the piano playing but the singing is too much opera style for my taste.
Performance:2*

A Few Words From The Song

I can stand a thousand trials
The strong will never fall
But watching stars without you
My soul cries
I'm kissing you
Touch me deep
Pure and true
Gift to me
Forever
Cause I'm kissing you
Oh, I'm kissing you

6. Whatever (I Had a Dream) by Butthole Surfers

The guitar riffs and other music riffs are superb. The singing is very good as well, but there is a few points that makes this song sound full of insanity.
Performance:3*

Clip From Movie

Peace, I hate the word
As I hate hell
All Montague's

A Few Words From The Song

I had a dream last night
And it fit me like a glove
I had a dream last night
And it fit me like a glove
Right on
Heavens to those Montague's
John Wayne and Betty Davis

7. Lovefool by The Cardigans

Sounds like a young lady or teenager in desperate search of love. Very pretty, but the beats are played out from over use.
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

And I beg for you to..
Love me, Love me
Say that you love me
Fool me, fool me
Go on and fool me
Love me love me
Pretend that you love me

8. Young Hearts Run Free by Kym Mazelle

Sounds like a welcoming song to a disco club. Pretty song but seems to be the oddball song of the entire album.
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

Young hearts fun free
To yourself be true
Don't be no fool
When love really don't love you

9. Everybody's Free (To Feel Good) by Quindon Tarver

Sounds like a church choir mixed with a musical where they are performing drama while singing.
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

Brothers and sisters
Together we make it through
Oooh, yea
Someday a spirit
Will take you and guide you back
I know
You've been hurting
But I've been waiting to be there for you
And I'll be there
Just helping you out
Whenever i can
Everybody's free everybody's free
To feel good
To feel good

10. To You I Bestow by Mundy

A rock song asking and giving of love. Singer appears to have a slight Rod Stewart influence from how he sings in certain parts. Band has a slight twist of 80's music.
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

Kiss me and tell me it's not broken
Kiss me and kiss me till I'm dead
See, I give you the stars
From the bruised evening sky

11. Talk Show Host by Radiohead

Sounds rather depressing and hopeless in the singing and in the music. Do not care for this song.
Performance:4*

A Few Words From The Song

You want me
Well, come on and break the door down
You want me
Come on and fu*king break the door down
I'm ready, I'm ready, I'm ready

12. Little Star by Stina Nordenstam

Sounds like a child singing and is really annoying to listen to. Skip this song. Good sounding wood winds playing though.
Performance:0*

13. You and Me Song by The Wannadies

Cheery song. But gets boring very quickly. Good if you want to dedicate that you will always be there for your love.
Performance:2*

A Few Words From The Song

And you know it's always
You and me always
Forever
You and me always
And forever
Ba ba ba
It was always you and me
Always

Comments

Overall, this is a worthwhile soundtrack but I would not pay much more than $14 dollars for it because the replay is limited. The #1 Crush is almost worth it because it such a heavenly song.
