| njchicaa's Full Review: Roomba 4916 Roomba Replenish Kit |
We've had our Roomba for a little over a year now. With many cats in the house, I've always been happy to have the thing zooming around the house picking up daily dust and fur. Over the past two months, though, I noticed that the cleaning performance was really starting to decline. I first noticed that it wasn't sucking up anything from the rugs, but it still seemed to work on the hardwood floors. Then it just stopped picking up anything. Before we dropped $300 on a new vacuuming robot, we decided to buy a Roomba Replenish Kit to see if it would help at all... and boy did it ever!
About The Roomba Replenish Kit
As the name implies, this kit is designed to boost your Roomba's performance by replacing some key parts that can wear down over time. This set contains six different replacement parts: one bristle brush, one beater brush, one side brush, and three reusable filters. This Roomba Replenish Kit costs $29.99 (plus shipping) and is available only on the iRobot company web site.
Switching Out The Parts
You can easily remove and replace the filter and the bristle/beater brushes without anything other than your bare hands. The side brush is held into place with a very small phillips head screw, though, so you will need to have a screwdriver on hand to replace that particular part. The whole process took me less than five minutes to complete and I am not someone you'd describe as handy or good with mechanical parts.
What An Improvement!
As soon as I put all of the new pieces into place, I hit the start button and watched my Roomba zoom around the room. Immediately I could see that the Replenish Kit had made a huge difference in the vacuuming performance. Not only was the Roomba picking up everything on the hardwood, but it was also doing an excellent job on our navy blue carpet. In fact, it sucked up so much dirt and cat fur that I had to pause it mid-cycle so I could dump out the collection bin. I hadn't had to do that in months. Truly the cleaning performance was the same as it was when we first bought the machine in March 2007.
Overall Opinion
I am very happy to have my Roomba back in tip-top shape. We were about to spend $300 on another one, so this $30 Roomba Replenish Kit saved us quite a bit of money. Even if I have to buy two of these kits per year to keep the robot at peak performance, I will consider it money well-spent. This item is something that all Roomba owners need to buy.
