| merlot's Full Review: RoseArt Twist Up Crayons |
My youngest daughter just recently had her 4th birthday. Purchasing a birthday gift for her is always difficult because she is an after Christmas baby. However, a friend hit the jackpot when she purchased RoseArt Twist Up Crayons as part of my daughters gift.
I'm a little embarassed to tell you that these came from my friend who has teenage daughters. She finds these awesome crayons I, with 2 small children, didn't know existed. Wow! What a find. She said she thought they looked cool, boy was she right!
RoseArt Twist Up Crayons come in a clear plastic pocket pouch. They fit nicely into the pouch and close nicely. They come with 10 crayons in a package. They don't look like regular crayons because they aren't your everyday crayon.
The crayon is encased in clear plastic which allows you to see the color of the crayon. They are just a little longer and a little fatter than a pen. The entire crayon is protected in this plastic case. The top of the case twists the crayon down for coloring. You can then twist the crayon back up when you are done to protect the tips from breaking. That's totally cool!
Like regular crayons these color nicely and are non-toxic. That's where the similarities end. With the nice plastic casing these crayons won't get broken, won't get stepped on and seem to just be better protected. The crayon itself is quite a bit longer than a regular crayon, maybe twice as long, so they are going to last a bit longer.
These RoseArt Twist Up Crayons take some getting used to. Because they never need sharpening you don't always have a nice point to the crayon, but most kids probably won't notice that. Since they are a bit longer, fatter, and heavier than a traditional crayon little hands might have a bit of trouble getting used to these, but given time they will love them. You'll need to show your kids how to use them and remind them to twist them back up when done to protect the tips.
I love these crayons. My kids drop crayons on the floor and walk away all the time. I can't tell you how many crayons I have snapped when I've stepped on them. That problem is almost eliminated with these crayons, I suppose they could break if you step on them, but the chances are reduced. I love that you don't need to sharpen these crayons.
I really like to color with my kids, in fact I like to color alone. Often I have broken crayons when I have been coloring, I guess I press to hard and the crayon snaps in half. A broken crayon is no fun and taping it back together only works so well, plus you have kids yelling at you for breaking their crayons, how fun is that? That isn't going to happen with these crayons. The casing is hard, like a pen, and the crayon is inside protected from breaking.
The crayons come in a pack of 10 with the following colors:
Pink, Purple, Blue, Brown, Teal, Green, Black, Red, Orange, and Yellow. Since these were a new product to me and I hadn't seen them in stores I don't know if more colors are available. These are a great product so I am hoping to see wider choices in the future.
The one thing to be aware of is that the bottom part of the pen casing does screw off. If this happens it could pose a choking hazard for smaller children.
RoseArt Twist Up Crayons are highly recommended by this mom, her 4 year old daughter, and her 6 year old daughter. Oh yeah, Dad loves them too. They are non-toxic, recommended for ages 3 and up and sell for $1.99 for a 10 pack of crayons.
