Pros:Nice arts and crafts project, inexpensive, little girls love it.
Cons:The perfect gift to give as a revenge present, more looms are needed.
The Bottom Line: Anyone have any creative ideas for all these freaky looking potholders???

There are some things that I dread and revenge presents top the list. Annabelle received this gift for Christmas from a "friend"; I gave her son a talking Pooh doll and he played with it non-stop almost driving her over the edge of sanity. The RoseArt Weaving Loom is nothing new, these have been around for years. What makes them fun? That is what I am still trying to figure out. You weave a loop through other loops until you 'make something' and that something is always square, resembles a potholder and usually has a mishmash of loud colors. The kit comes with a plastic base, bag of 120 fabric loops and a plastic weaving tool. Replacement loops are sold but you don't have to buy the RoseArt brand for them to work correctly with the plastic base.
This has a suggested retail price of $5.29 and is sold in a variety of stores; replacement pieces can often be found in craft stores in the children's section. If you have a child that is into crafts, this product is a nice investment. There is almost no danger to using it outside of accidentally poking themselves with the plastic tool. This is great for eye-hand coordination, something that every child needs to practice. I didn't think Annabelle would have the determination to finish one of these let alone going through the whole bag in a weeks time. The grid is made up of eighteen prongs across and the same number down. You start by attaching the loops to one side, rotate it and start weaving the other [over and under] until you are done. To lock the ends, weave another loop through and secure the edges.
The RoseArt Weaving Lomb is made from solid plastic and something that won't break easily. It takes about twenty minutes for her to make one of these and frankly, I am overrun with these things at the moment. She's planning on opening her own little "Homemade Potholder" shop in the summer right next to the neighbors lemonade stand. That should be an interesting scenario. I thought she would get bored with this quickly but she has been having a blast with it since receiving it. It's suggested for kids ages three and older and it goes without saying that this is definitely a 'girlie thing'. No batteries required, makes no noise and it's well made; what more could you ask for?
The only dangerous part to this are the plastic prongs on the edges of the loom; these will probably also be the first things to break. Outside of Super-Glue I can't see any way to fix them and I'm sure I'll face that task soon enough. So far Annabelle's loving this toy and the giver is going to get a nice big box of potholders for her birthday. It's easy to use, fun for her and ensures we'll have plenty of gawd-awful potholders. Weave on little girl, weave on!
As always, thanks for the visit
