Well, *I* liked it ... (Reply to this comment)

Like others commenting here, I've always been a big fan of your reviews ... and this one is no exception. Granted,I gather from comments that I missed an earlier version of this review, but I thought your comments were observant and you do a nice job of addressing some thorny issues. Namely: It's all well and good to say we must have PC toys that show kids the way the world is, but that's not what toys are for! Toys are for fun and for imagination and for a bit of fantasy. If you can't play with the darn thing, it's not teaching anybody a lesson in diversity.

Personally, from this and other reviews, you sound like a great Mom to me, and I have no doubt that playing with Barbie will not make your daughters bulemic, nor will Rosie's doll make them shun fat TV hostesses. (However, Rosie's line-cutting stunt *MAY* turn them against her!) Kids learn from what their parents teach them - not from how a doll looks.

I'm really glad you edited your review. I think you make your points much more clearly, without the comments that seemed insensitive. That's why I changed my rating.

In an interview I heard with Rosie, she said that when Mattel approached her about the doll, she insisted that the doll must be proportionate to her size compared to Barbie, and that the doll have a double chin like she does.

Mattel has had compatability issues before. Apparently, the wheelchair made for a handicapped friend of Barbie's couldn't fit through the door of Barbie's Dream House!

I rated your epinion "NR" because........ (Reply to this comment)

I felt that it could of been written in a more neutral tone, and still gotten your points across.
I felt that you were too negative, and the whole epinion had an air of being against people that are overweight.
I generally like your epinions, but I was disappointed with this one.

Years ago I watched Rosie's talk show and all she talked about was all the junk food she ate and how much she loved, which is why I put in the comment about ding dongs.

As for the title, I did put a question mark after indicating it's not the way I feel, but in the dolls world it is a fact - she is too big to sit in the sports car we have, the airplane seat, and the clothes. This is Mattels fault, as they sell her as a Barbie and you find her in the Barbie aisle. she is not compatible and I didn't make her that way.

All of Barbies other friends are the same size (which is not a good or bad thing - well probably a bad thing) but it makes it nice and easy to swap clothes and dress them and have them use all the products designed for Barbies. It is Mattel saying the big doll doesn't belong in the skinny out of proportion dolls world, not me.

I agree about the mean comments which is how I also took them. Rosie has done a lot for a lot of causes. She's also lost a lot of weight lately. No one is overweight on purpose.... everyone can't be perfect... I like and admire Rosie. Just my 2 cents..

Some of the comments about the ding-dongs, cokes etc.. and the overall tone came off sounding quite mean. You say you're not making fun of Rosie's size, but your other comments- even the title- say something else.

I didn't mean to be mean. I'm just saying the doll has one outfit and can't fit in any other clothes. this is mattel's problem not mine. my girls don't like the doll because they can't dress her in anything else so they don't play with her.

about 10 years ago I purposely bought my one year old daughter a new line of dolls called "happy to be me". they were barbie style dolls with flatter chests, thick waists and wide hips - much chunkier than the unabtainable barbie figure.

my daughter loved them and still does - why, because they were bigger and easier to dress, and because someone had the sense to make extra outfits for them, which is what most girls do with barbie style dolls. they were bigger, but not so big as to fit in a Barbie car and in the furniture.

if mattel is going to market bigger size barbie style dolls (and I'm all for having realistic portioned dolls), then please give them clothes to change into and cars they can drive and furniture they can sit on.

that's what I meant with this epinion of the doll, not that she's fat and no one could love a fat doll.

I usually like your epinions, but I thought this one was really mean. Your comments about the doll not being compatible are the only redeeming features of this epinion- since you are essentially saying: "who wants a fat doll."

If you want to be more familiar with Rosie's work, watch "A League of their Own." This movie shows just how athletic and funny this "big" girl can be.
