| patriciak's Full Review: Rosie's Rosedust |
I can not think of a better product to review for my 100th review. If you are as close to your pets as I am to mine, then when helping them through an illness, especially a chronic condition that is terminal, you want to make your pets remaining days comfortable, and as happy as possible. Rosie's Rosedust was created to help your ill, stressed or off-appetite pet, does it accomplish that goal for my cats? Read on to find out.
A Little History - Rosebud Inc.
This company was created in response to the desire by Sandra Jackson,to have delicious treats free from additives, preservatives, for the enjoyment of her beloved Belgian Teruven puppy, nicknamed Rosie. The treats, Rosie's Rewards were such a hit with dogs and cats alike (and later a higher fat version for ferrets was created), that Rosebud, Inc. was formed.
Why was Rosie's Rosedust created?
This product is intended to be a wholesome food enhancer, to be used to get some nutrition into your pet that may not be feeling well, and as a consequence, not eating, or to add extra nutritional value to a favorite food or treat. It may also be used to give medications with (how is described below).
What is Rosie's Rosedust?
100% Beef that is dried and crumbled into a pieces about the size of fine bacon bits. The beef used is from Montana range fed cows that are hormone free, processed in a USDA inspected plant, and very lean. There is nothing added to this product. It is dried beef period.
Taste Test and Response
As I've mentioned in a number of my reviews this past year, my American Curl, Patrick (a big cream lynx point with Sinatra blue eyes, and a mellow, confident air about him) was diagnosed with Chronic Renal Failure over a year ago. Part of what happens with this incurable, chronic and ultimately fatal condition, is anorexia. Not only is it important to monitor what foods he eats, for choices that are lower in phosphorus and in protein (with that protein being of very good quality), it is simply important that he eat.
Rosie's Rosedust is not a low protein food enhancer...but it is, bar none (sorry Kitty Kaviar) the best appetite stimulant I've found.
I sprinkle a pinch of Rosie's Rosedust atop his prescription dry food, and he will eat more. I sprinkle this atop a lower phosphorus, lower protein canned food, and Patrick eats more. Ultimately, his quality of life is improved with him not losing weight, enjoying his food, and still considering anything he has to ingest, as a treat. Recently, he has required assist-feeding several times a day...but he still has never, ever, walked away from a sprinkle of Rosedust. In our home, it is magic pixie dust, that buys us more time together.
Recommended Usage
some of the following is the product flyer Rosedust is for all carnivores, the list includes dogs, cats, ferrets, hedgehogs, the parrot family of birds, and rodents. To use, sprinkle one teaspoon atop food for your cat, or one tablespoon for your large dog.
To "beef" up your dog's cookies (if you make them at home) add a quarter cup to the recipe. For administering medicine, you can either add a bit of water to reconstitute the Rosedust and add the medicine to that, or dry mix it with your medication. (Be sure to follow any instructions for use on the medication you are using...if it's a medication that should not be crushed/crumbled/powdered, consider popping the pill or capsule into a little "meatball" of reconstituted Rosedust, asking your vet first if that is satisfactory to do.)
Do not use for meal replacement!

Final Thoughts
I can not find a single negative about this product except to say that Rosie's Rosedust is still difficult to find, and despite the wild swing of prices (I've seen this as high as over $15), at any price, would be considered expensive. It comes only in a decorative tin, which features, as do all products by Rosebud, Inc. a photo of Rosie. Inside the tin, is a sample of Rosie's Rewards for ferrets, and one for cats and small dogs, a flyer that tells the story of Rosie and the company products, plus a 2 oz. net wt. bag of Rosie's Rosedust. It is not available at this time in any other packaging (I've talked with the owner, Sandy, about how wonderful it would be if someday, there could be a refill sized package, with no tin involved. The tin is charming, but usable for a long time, no need for a tin each time the product is purchased!).
I can never express to Sandy, my gratitude for what her products are doing to improve the quality of life for Patrick. I am sad to say that Rosie passed away just this Summer...what a wonderful legacy she leaves.
Thank you for reading my 100th review!
