Pros: Small, intimate venue. Every seat provides an unobstructed view of the entire stage.
Cons: None come to mind.
The Bottom Line: We have thoroughly enjoyed the first two productions this season at Round House Theatre. While this is our first year as season ticket-holders, it will certainly not be our last.

This is the inaugural season at Round House Theatres new location on the outskirts of Washington, DC. This new Bethesda Maryland venue is an intimate facility that seats about 400 patrons. It is located on East-West Highway at the intersection with Waverly Street. [It is just one short block east of Wisconsin Avenue.] The immediate vicinity boasts numerous eateries for pre or post theater dining. The locale is equally convenient to Washington, DC, Maryland, and northern Virginia suburbs.
Eight exceptionally diverse shows comprise the 2002 2003 season.
1. Our Town *
2. Love and Anger *
3. The Cherry Orchard through 8 December 2002
4. A Broadway Christmas Carol 12 to 29 December 2002
5. The Pavilion Opens 5 February 2003
6. Speaking in Tongues Opens 2 April 2003
7. Underneath the Lintel ** - 1 May to 8 June 2003
8. Pippin Opens 28 May 2003
*Our Town and Love and Anger have completed their runs. Those two productions offered very dissimilar themes. Yet, they both had two characteristics in common. In both cases the stage settings were simple. This kept distracting scenery changes to a minimum which allowed the audience to concentrate on the acting. More importantly, the performances of the troupe were uniformly superb in both instances. [Pat Carrolls rendition of the narrator in Our Town and Sarah Marshalls over-the-top presence in Love and Anger were particularly enjoyable.]
**Underneath the Lintel does not come as part of the regular season subscription. But it is an easy addition for a very reasonable $25.00 per ticket. This production will also inaugurate Round House Theatres second facility in downtown Silver Spring, Maryland. The new theatre is a much smaller venue that seats between 100 150 patrons. It is located on Colesville Road between Fenton Street and Georgia Avenue.
Round House Theatre offers performances on weekday evenings, Saturday matinees and evenings, and Sunday matinees and evenings. Prices for regular individual showings range from $27.00 to $36.00. There are several discounts from these prices for season subscribers, younger audiences, and preview performances. Details can be found at http://www.roundhousetheatre.org or you can call the box office at 240-644-1100. [For groups of ten or more, contact Group Sales at 240-644-1099, extension 226.]
The Round House Theatre is a terrific alternative to downtown DC theaters. It routinely offers a mix of established plays and new productions. Great entertainment can be yours for fewer dollars and less transportation problems than usually encountered on a trip into our nations capital.
If you are interested in fine stage performances at reasonable prices, get around to Round House Theatre.
