Pros: Cheap, wide selection, great quality, convenient location
Cons: If you are expecting quiet serenity this is not the place for you
The Bottom Line: If I make the effort to go each time I'm in town I think that speaks very highly of the place!

| starstraf's Full Review: Ru San's |
Each trip I take to Atlanta I make the effort to goto one of the Ru-San's restaurants. There are now six of them. This is the original at 1529 Piedmont Ave NE (at Monroe) which was only an $8 cab trip for three from our downtown hotel (Hyatt Regency). (I have also been to the Buckhead and Marietta one on prior trips). Unlike the other Ru-San's this does not have the anime video screens going but is still the more casual atmosphere then the traditional sushi restaurant you find in the states.
The decor is more diner then sushi resaurant. Booths and tables with a large cook/prep area against one wall - probally 5-6 chefs working on the orders. The tables are a bit small and the tables are pretty close togther. Mostly things are black and white with a bit of red accent in artwork and such.
There was very little wait (maybe five minutes) and if we had wanted to sit at the sushi bar there was immediate seating available. Their menu is huge and somewhat overwhelming - the main menu is a 6 panel folding menu, plus a 4 panel sushi menu and a specials sheet. Our waiter was very helpful for making recommendations.
I had a 'banana boat' roll - that was crab, tuna, banana with a special sweat sauce - sort of a banana's foster type of sauce. The taste combination was almost sinful. I also had tempura scallops (you can order tempura by the piece) and some yellow tail (one panel of the sushi menu is all pieces). My dining companions had a Rising Sun roll and a 7 color rainbow roll - both were also delicious, and they had some individual sushi and tempura.
The rolls were artistically designed each with their own sauce, the sushi pieces were generous cuts and each taste distinct (unlike the blend you sometimes get if stored to close together). The fish was wonderfully fresh - very likely do to their high volume and quick turnover. And the selection was AMAZING. Probally twice as many options in pieces as any other place I have been to and three times the roll selections.
Our total bill was under $45 for three people and we all left stuffed and happy.
The atmosphere was crowded and busy but we were still able to carry on a conversation. Our waiter was attentive without being invasive, and went the extra mile to make recommendations, and call us a cab when we were ready to leave.
(I originaly had this review listed under the wrong location - I have moved it)
