Rules of Prey is the first of John Sandford's accomplished Prey novels. This one starts out a whole series of great books. The maddog is going after dark haired woman in the city of Minneapolis. He randomly selects woman that turn his crank, follows them for awhile, plans it out, and then waits for the oppurtune moment to get them. He leaves his rules at ever crime scene. It is up to Lucas Davenport to stop this crazed killer. He chases his leads all over Minneapolis and ends up falling for the only Maddog victim that ever escaped. This is a thrilling, fast-paced book that just grabs you. I read this whole book in one sitting because I just could not put it down. I actually bought his fourth Prey novel at a garage sale and I didn't know it about 5 years ago. As soon as I found out there was more of the Prey novels, I went and bought every single one of them and have been anticipating every new one that comes out. But even just reading his fourth book I was immediately hooked into his series. I think his first Prey book was the most chilling, most catching book of them all. The ending happens in a way you would not suspect unless you know how Lucas Davenport is in other books. But the end is just pure genius.
