| sponkit's Full Review: Rurouni Kenshin |
Imagine yourself traveling to a time when samurai warriors fighting each other for different causes and showing off their different skills and techniques with each other. When I watch the cartoon like Rurouni Kenshin, it is not hard for me to imagine the life of a samurai warrior.
Rurouni Kenshin: Romance of a Meiji Swordsman is a Japanese cartoon. It has a setting of Tokugawa and early Meiji period. The story is all about the life, love and adventures of Kenshin Himura. Kenshin is a wanderer with X shaped scar in his left cheek and he had a hidden past. In his past, he was a hired killer. He was also known as Hitokiri Battōsai, literally means Man Killer ― Master of Battōjutsu. Battōjutsu, one of Kenshins techniques, is a technique in slashing or cutting piece of wood using a sword.
Kenshin mourned for all the lives he has taken and he made a promise that he wont kill again. In his journey as a wanderer, he met Kaoru Kamiya. Kenshin helped Kaoru by saving her familys dojo from a crooked crime lord. What happen next is for you to find out.
A Little Trivia about the cartoon
The cartoon was based on a manga created by Nobuhiro Watsuki. The manga was released in the Japanese Shonen Jump Weekly Anthology.
The television series had three estimated seasons. It attracted many young followers due to the romantic relationship of Kenshin and Kaoru.
Kaoru Shizuka, a writer, has written a Rurouni Kenshin novel entitled Voyage to the Moon World.
WHAT'S GOOD ABOUT IT?
Incredible fighting scenes: Kenshin and other characters had a lot of fighting scenes. I like the fighting scene between Kenshin and Shishio, which is incredible episode. Kenshin showed his amazing Hiten Mitsurugi-Ryū techniques. In this cartoon, fighting skills of Kenshin and other characters are defensive so their fighting stunts did not appear violent.
Good story: The story behind the characters could teach you the importance of life, acceptance and love. Kenshin regrets his life as an assassin and renew his life by saving and protecting other people. Kaoru accepts Kenshin in spite of his past. The love story of Kaoru and Kenshin is very funny but it turned out to be romantic story later on. It is a good story because there are a lot of mysteries behind the characters especially Kenshin that unfold in every episode.
Good soundtrack: The theme songs of Rurouni Kenshin sounds really good. I like the song entitled Its Gonna Rain by Bonnie Pink. The song has funky sounds.
WHAT ABOUT THE BAD STUFF?
Bloody scenes: When watching the cartoon, parental guidance is recommended. It is because parents should tell their kids not to imitate the fighting stunts of the cartoon characters.
FINAL RECOMMENDATION:
If you want to watch unique adventure and misadventure of a samurai warrior, Rurouni Kenshin is the right cartoon for you. However, you need to watch the whole episodes so that you could understand the story of every cartoon character. If you are a truly anime fan, certainly you should not fail to watch Rurouni Kenshin. I could not wait for the sequel Rurouni Kenji.
