This product is fantastic. I bought it for about $30 after rebate because I wanted a mouse with shortcut buttons. I would suggest getting rid of your old mouse and buying this one for several reasons.
First, the touchpad is a delight. No more moving a little box around tight desk space and cleaning out dirty mice balls. Nice and smooth operation!
Second, the shortcut keys are very convenient, mostly for the web. Go back, forward, stop, and refresh all using a row of keys just above the touchpad. Also, there is a key for print and e-mail. Print is the shortcut for File->Print. The e-mail key launches your default e-mail software (if you use any) at the touch of a button. Mine launches Outlook Express.
Third, above the shortcut row is a big arrow key for scrolling up, down, left, or right.
Fourth, in an arch across the top of the mouse (above the arrow key), are six shortcut keys that can hold web links that you like. Just hit one of these keys to open your favorite page on the web. You can program any page you want.
Fifth, the four main "click" buttons are customizable. You can have left click and right click on two buttons, and the other two can hold keyboard sequences, open menus, show programs from the task bar, and more.
Last, but perhaps my favorite, is the tiny button above the touchpad and below the shortcut row: a virtual keyboard button. Push this button to produce a keyboard on the screen. Push it again, and the keyboard disappears.
The software that comes with this mouse is excellent providing, as I said, a high degree of customizability. This device is a crown achievement in the peripheral industry!
