| randallw's Full Review: AcerScan 610P Flatbed Scanner |
My UMAX Astra 610P scanner was given to me; I was sort of looking for one, and the previous owner bought a newer scanner, so this one was available.
The scanner is a flatbed type, about 11 1/2" wide x 16" long x 3 1/4" tall, so it's a bit bulky.
The scanner has a moderate size AC adapter; it connects to my computer through the parallel port.
The scanner needs a warm-up time of about 30-40 seconds ( normal for scanners? ). It scans a bit slowly ( it doesn't come with any documents that mention a measured speed ).
The connections/switches on the scanner are the scan button ( push it for an immediate scan ), a power light, a lock switch, an unlock switch, a power supply connection, and two parallel ports ( one port connects to the computer, other connects to a printer if you have a printer ).
The scanner comes with Presto! PageManager and Adobe PhotoDeluxe ( 2.0 I think ) as programs that manage picture files; there is also the Vistascan program that tests the scanner.
The manual is thin; only 29 pages; the manual shows mentions that a document should be placed face down, aligned with a mark on the scanner bed. From that, it's hopefully gleaned that the upper left corner of a document should be placed towards the corner of the flatbed near the lock/unlock buttons.
Since I didn't buy the scanner I don't know the price.
