Thinkpad 560E. a bit more computer than a 560 for a bout the same price

Cons: External Floppy, Processing Speed
The Bottom Line: Excellent computer for the money. Even better value than the 560 (faster and has MMX). The Screen is beautiful (TFT).

Why buy an old laptop?!@
I asked myself that question too before i make a purchase on eBay for this great laptop. Well. at around $300, what kind of laptop can i buy? Surprisingly, I can still pickup a 4.1LB, 12.1" TFT Screen, 2GB Hard Drive, 32MB Ram, with a Pentium 166MMX for that price. Well, you might say.. $800 gets a new Celeron 550 (the cheapest i series). But, it only has 32mb ram, a DSTN Screen (this is why i hate it.. those DSTN Shadows is really annoying).. however, it got a bigger hard drive (4GB+) and bigger in weight and size too. (that's about 7.7lb.. and the 560 is only 4.1lb) It's your decision basically, but why not save that extra $600 for something else when you don't need that much power from the CPU?

Nothing fancy here, but it's sufficient for me to listen to mp3s, browse the net, emails, word processing, do a presentation etc etc.
What's good about it?
- price! What can i say when i only have to pay $300 for a laptop with MMX and TFT
- quality (IBM quality!..
- FRUs (Field Replaceable Units), even a part dies with your 560, there are tons on eBay that you can buy and replace.
- Weight (4.1LBs.. those new cheap ones are 7.5LB+)
- Size, very easy to carry around
- Bright, good quality screen (TFT only, i'll never buy a DSTN)
What's bad about it?
- speed 166MMX.. fast with Win 95, Still enough for Win98
- external floppy
Conclusion
A great laptop for the price. Perfect for students, SOHO people which doesn't require the fastest CPU in the market. NOTE: if you're buying this on ebay, make sure they come with the floppy and AC adapter, sometimes, they sell them separately.
