The final piece to my computer setup is the most significant - the speaker system. I purchased the Altec Lansing 45.1 three speaker system as an upgrade to my existing 2-speaker Labtec set.
Reasons for this were obvious: POWER! Not only does my computer serve as a CD-player, but it is my #1 video game source. A powerful speaker system was a requirement.
Installation was a breeze, and any beginner can install without trouble. No software required, just plug-n-play.
The Altec 45.1 set includes one large subwoofer and two satellite speakers. Volume control is located on the left satellite, while a BASS adjustment is found on the woofer.
Let me tell you, that bass shakes the room!
In the noisy college dorm, I have found it handy to position the woofer against the wall. For neighbor control, I simply blast some heavy-bass music and VOOLAH! Silence.
My Quake 3 (see article) battles have livened up, and each machinegun blast can be felt in the extreme. For the hardcore gamer, a powerful speaker system is essential.
Best of all, the complete package only cost me $70. This is superior value for the quality received. If you are in need of a new speaker system, this one's for you!
