| filth_magnet's Full Review: Altec Lansing ACS 45.1 2 Speakers |
I first purchased my Altec/Lansing speakers for my college dorm room. I have a full stereo rack, but being from out-of-state, means no good sound system --- because I don't want the postal service or the baggage "throwers" from the airline I fly to damage my stereo and speakers. So...I went to CompUSA (yes I know they blow) to look for a nice, compact set of speakers that weren't too bulky, yet delivered a punch and boom of bass sound which I like. Even though I don't really like CompUSA (it's the only major store that carries most computer equipment in Hawaii), I'd have to say I got a great deal on these speakers. I only paid $75.00 (US) and they sound just as great as my Kenwood speakers.
Since I am a college student who hates to store stuff, I can easily pack these speakers up and send them home since they come with those nice styrofoam holders in the box. I just hooked it up in about 5 minutes time, and viola! it's all ready and set to go. I just plug it into my laptop and the sound is amazing.
The subwoofer makes a great bass sound that doesn't get muffled or sound like cr*p and it's amazing considering it's compact size. The two tweeter speakers left on your desk create a wonderful crisp, high sound to meld with the subwoofer.
Everything from CDs, MP3's, .wav files and streaming audio sounds great. When I play all my songs softly, my roomate downstairs complains about the ceiling vibrating...so that may be a con, but I like the fact that it sounds phat. Everything that I play - from metal to house to trance sounds exceptional.
Another con is that it may get muffled when you turn it up to extreme volumes, but most of the time people don't do that unless you're deaf or having an enormous party. But for a personal computer speakers they are wonderful.
Here's a tip. When playing from a source like Winamp, you've got to play around with the equalizer settings. At first I thought the speakers sucked, until I took the time to get the equalization right. Usually the easiest form of equalization is going to the presets and picking "rock" or "reggae" and then slowly play around with the bass or treble.
The Altec Lansing ACS45.1 are the greatest computer speakers I've owned so far. The price is amazing too for the quality it offers. The easy quick set up is a plus too. If you are on a budget and looking for great speakers get these. You won't be sorry.
