I purchased this product to quickly connect two PCs in my household in order to share a single connection (Cable Modem) to the internet. The product was very easy to install and setup. The 25' cables were perfect, any shorter and I would have been out of luck.
The product does well in both 10Mb and 100Mb mode. I was forced from 100Mb to 10Mb to support an older ethernet card. The product does not allow you to have one port on the hub at 100Mb and the others at 10Mb, it is an all or nothing affair.
I have two minor complaints. First, the hub contains a small fan that is a bit noisy. For some reason if the hub is placed on it side the noise is dramatically reduced. Second, the supplied cables are bright blue. For a home environment, these are not necessarily decor neutral. No big deal.
Anyone needing a small fast network would benefit from the product. You should feel comfortable with installing PC hardware. Software installation under Windows NT, 98, and Linux was a snap.
I purchased the product over the competition for two reasons. First, it was the best priced 10/100Mb hub/card kit, including cables. D-LINK is a well supported product by both Microsoft Windows products and in Linux.
