linda41971's Full Review: Microsoft Cordless Wheel (C57-00017) Mouse
We just got a new computer desk, which we badly needed. Its so much better than the old table we were using! Anyway, this desk has a place for the CPU in a closed cabinet about 3 feet to the left of the keyboard. I needed to buy an extension cord for my keyboard, mouse and monitor. I priced these and they were about $10 each. My mouse was also dying, so I decided to kill two birds with one stone and buy a cordless mouse. These are more expensive than regular "mice", but I wouldn't need the extension cord. Also, I'm tired of buying a cheap mouse that breaks after a couple of months.
I looked at the brands available, and decided to buy the Microsoft cordless wheelmouse. There were one or two other brands available, but I decided to go with a name that I knew this time. This mouse cost me $30, and comes with a 3 year hardware guarantee. Even though the mouse itself is cordless, there is a receiver that plugs into the back of the computer. The receiver has a 3 foot cord, and can be placed up to five feet away from the actual mouse. It works through the clutter and interference of the other computer components without a problem, and has two channels to choose from. There is a scroll bar to make scrolling easier, and also a zoom feature. It works with Windows 95, or later, and needs 30 MB of available hard disk space. You also need to have a CD rom drive to install the software that comes with it.
After I had this mouse three weeks, it became hard to use. I thought that maybe there was interference, so I tried moving the mouse - no luck. After trying a few different things, I decided to call Microsoft. I was not looking forward to this, because I'm used to sitting on hold for hours and finally talking to customer service reps that need to learn about customer service. I was very surprised! After a few confusing phone calls to locate the correct customer service area, I was treated with courtesy by a VERY helpful customer service representative. After working with her a few minutes I needed to leave. No problem - she set up a time to continue our call, and actually called back at that time. She made some suggestions, which did not work, so it was decided that I had a bad mouse. Again, no problem, she put in an order for a new mouse for me and I had one 3 days later. She then called to see how it was working and sent me a follow up email to check again a few days after that. I felt that this company was really trying to stand behind their product and wanted their customers to be happy. My new mouse is working fine several weeks later.
I strongly recommend this mouse if you are in the market for a cordless mouse, and I know that I will be buying Microsoft products in the future.
