| eugeniahall's Full Review: Canon BJC 7004 InkJet Printer |
The Canon BJC-7004 Photo reminds me a bit of a curmudgeonly printer in an old fashioned print shop, you have to argue with it a bit but the results are of the highest quality. I'm an Artisan, and I run a small business selling the items I create in local galleries, at outdoor fairs and at bazaars. I only have one requirement from my printer, that the results be absolutely professional looking at all times. The BJC-7004 Photo gives me stunning color and razor sharp text, not to mention a measure of water resistance not found in most Inkjet printers.
This comes with a trade-off however, the printer is amazingly, agonizingly slow. It also binds up if you put too much paper in the tray, although admittedly its partly my fault for using heavy card stock much of the time. Furthermore it is expensive, ink-wise, but I forgive that fault the quickest because I do enough outdoor Fairs that the water resistance of the ink pays off. Until you've watched 10 hours worth of work printing labels, tags and signs vanish with a summer shower you don't know how much you want your ink to be water resistant. How resistant? Well, raindrops won't smudge my pictures or text and I've soaked pages in buckets of water and had them dry in perfect shape. One thing you can do is rub hard on a document when its wet, there's a bit of smudging then, but compared to most Inkjets its minimal.
These faults however fade when you see the results of your work, its really incredible just how good it can be when you take the care to use quality artwork and fonts. I've printed resumes for my husband on fancy paper and they look exactly like the custom printed ones, except for the lack of raised ink. I've given up buying cards completely because of this machine, between the software that comes with it and Print Artist Gold I can design cards that are much nicer then the ones you buy. I even have printed T-shirt transfers that turned out just great, both graphic ones, and ones with photographs on it. And lastly, it does print very nice photographs, especially if you spring for the special paper.
All in all if you are results oriented, have time and are willing to do routine maintenance like cleaning nozzles and aligning print heads (both are done with software it provides), then you'll like this printer. If you want a quick, cheap and medium quality printer, try another in the BJC series. This one is clearly meant for businesses, and people with specialized needs.
