| mimming's Full Review: Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 CD-RW Burner |
After having owned three different CDRW drives, this is by far the best I have owned. It was cheaper than the previous two I have owned and has made about three bad burns out of nearly three hundred burns. It seems to burn every kind of CDR and CDRW media perfectly well. It even burns media rated at 4x fine at a double speed of 8x. 8x is just the right speed for most CD burning needs. With my previous burner being a 2x burner, I always had time to read a book or fix some food, especially if I simulated the burn (which was necessary with my old one). Even the CD reading function of the burner is very good. It reads just as well and as fast as any higher end 32x IDE CD-ROM drive I have used.
There are, as with any product, some bad features though. The software package I received included a variety of programs including Adaptec EZ CD Creator v3 (with special patch for the burner), and Plextor’s own software. The Adapetec software is not as up to date as I would have liked and the Plextor software did not detect my generic CD-ROM. Because of this I was forced to copy to the hard disk for disc-at-once CD copies.
All in all this is a very, very good product. It burns fewer lemons than I have had with any other burner, it is lightning fast, and the software is satisfactory (even if a bit of a pain sometimes).
Oh and if you want it for about $200 be sure to check www.buycomp.com (one of my favorite computer part web-stores).
