| andykrynn's Full Review: Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 CD-RW Burner |
Plextor makes quality drives , I have two of them, an older plex-writer 4/12 and a new plex-writer 8/4/32. the only problem I ever had was with the old 4 speed, the loading mechanism stopped accepting the CD caddy. This is not the worst thing that can happen because I could force the caddy in and the drive would function as usual. Fortunately for me Plextor was great to me in sending a replacement, ZERO hassle. However, aside from that one problem I have been nothing but happy with the Plex-writers.
The drive is one of the most reliable I have ever used, I first upgraded from a Mitsumi 2801 TE so I know what a bad CD writer is, on the Mitsumi I would usually get a 10% coaster rate. The Plextors on the other hand have only given me 4 or 5 coasters ever… and I burn a LOT of CDs, so I think that makes the Plextors are the clear winners. Actually the only time it failed is when I was running too many programs in the background, so it was my fault whenever it failed.
These drives are have any features that you can need. It can do DAO, TAO, and a bunch of other recording types. Some writers, like the Mitsumi I used to own don’t do DAO, and for some applications this is requires, like burning ISO files.
About the only downside to these drives is the cost, I think they are the most expensive drives you can get. But for the high quality it is a trade off that is necessary.
So my recommendation is buy this drive if money is no issue, because there is nothing better on the market today.
