| sirsolo's Full Review: Plextor PlexWriter 8/4/32 CD-RW Burner |
My 4x HP 8200i series writer was working fine, but I no longer had patience to wait 20+ minutes for burning a CD, which I was doing increasingly more to make audio CDs.
So, knowing that so many people liked Plextor CD-RW drive, I decided to invest a bit more to try this burner out.
I bought a retail package from an online retailer for $155 (shipped, and no tax). The package included 1 blank CDR, 1 blank CDRW, software CD including EZ CD creator, registration card, screws, manual, and IDE cable in a very well packaged box. First Impression: A+
Installation was a breeze: I popped the CD-RW drive in to my computer, hooked up the IDE cable, and plugged in the power supply. In under 10 minutes I was up and running. Installation: A
I am not very fond of Adaptec EZCD creator software, and since I already have another software that I use for burning CDs, I didn't really care for the software that came with this drive. However, I heard that the version of the Adaptec EZCD creator is an old one - you may want to consider this when purchasing yours. Software package: N/A (I really don't care about it)
Burned a couple of audio CDs soon after it was set up, and it was uneventful as it should be: I burned a CD in under ten minutes, no coaster, and the result was great. No problem whatsoever. Burning: A+
Overall, I have to say that this is a great burner as everyone was telling me all along! It's fast, reliable, and it's got the name Plextor stuck to it. I would recommed this burner to anyone who wants to buy or upgrade their CD-RW driver. However, if you already have 8x+ burner, then you may not want to shell out the bucks for another 8x burner. Overall: A+
