| junebugz's Full Review: eMachines eView 17 17 inch CRT Monitor |
I received an eview e17s monitor with an eMachines computer I purchased back in December 2002. Got a great deal on it after selling my old computer and the printer which came with the new one, it ended up being about $100. Not bad!
I had an emachine before and was satisfied and have thoroughly enjoyed this new one. However, I am not sure how it happened, but one day my wife goes to push the power button on for the monitor, and it sticks in the monitor. It wasn't turned on either! Big problem, so I tried to get it to pop out to no avail after having a desire to disassemble the monitor and fix it like any good do-it-yourselfer would, I remember the times as a kid of taking a radio apart and having extra pieces after it was put back together in a rather different fashion. So I opted to try to just get the thing to turn on. After a minute or so of playing with the button it finally turned on, though the button is still stuck. So now we just turn the machine and monitor on using the power strip plugged into the wall ... kind of a pain in my book.
Anyway, enough of the woe's .... the monitor itself is awesome. Mine is not white like the picture but they do not have the actual eview 17s up yet. It is a type of platinum or dark silver color on the face and then a dark grey behind. Really sharp looking!!!
The monitor has an OSD (On-Screen Display which has just a ton of options to get the picture all throughout or have a little bit of "black space" between the screen and the edges. The monitor is kind of big, but that is the price to pay for a 17" screen ... it is 18" deep, 16" high, and just over 16" wide. Would love a flat panel but no willing to part with the cash just yet. This machine has three other great features as well ... a Non-glare screen (which works most of the time ... the sun can still pose a little problem though), Plug & Play compatibility, and it is Energy Star compliant for those of us who like to conserve on household utilities. Up to 1280x1024 makes the resolution possibilities a lot better than the old 15" monitor I had. The thing weighs 36 pounds so it isn't the easiest to move around, but most full size monitors are heavy and a little strange to try and move around.
Overall, this monitor is a great monitor, they only problem I have found in the button which won't come out ????
Happy hunting!
