| stack_ovfl's Full Review: Rio Diamond Viper II, (32 MB) AGP Video Card |
I bought this card to serve as an interim solution for gaming until the geForce2 cards came out. I kept this card for less than two days before I returned it because I had so many problems playing games with it. At the time I had the latest updated drivers for the card and the latest version of DirectX, and I could not play games with it that I had been able to play on my older card and older system. The system I put this card in has an AMD Athlon 750 mhz processor and an ASUS K7M Motherboard with AGP 2x. The biggest problem was constantly getting dropped back to the desktop when trying to play games such as Thief, MechWarrior3, and HeavyGear II. The other trick it liked to play was to crash the whole system, leaving me hanging and staring at a BSOD. And though being dropped to the desktop sometimes indicates problems with DirectX, it is like I said, I had and have currently the most recent version of DirectX, and after I returned this lousy card I bought an ATI Rage Fury Pro to serve as an interim card and I have not had any of those problems while using the same system and the same version of DirectX. My current interim card does have a couple of issues, but it does't have nearly as many problems as the Viper II. The lesson I have learned is to read reviews before I buy, a good site for this is SharkyExtreme, and that I will get what I pay for.
