| ccn158's Full Review: Casio Pocket Viewer PV-200 |
I decided that I needed a PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) to cope with my ever growing lifestyle. I found that a pocket sized version of a powerful computer would do the trick.
Admittedly, you need bigger than average pockets to carry this little gem, but it's well worth it. It's very inexpensive (about $100) and for what it does provides superb value for money.
First, and probably most importantly you get 2MB of space to save your information. This is more than enough to care for all your needs, unless you've got over a million contacts. So don't worry about that. Many people think that 2MB is a small amount, but remember the bad old days of personal organisers, where 64K seemed to be the bee's knees? Well, this Casio PV-200 is just a souped up version, therefore memory requirements are similar.
To be fair though, it has come a long way since the days or those chunky things. It looks very smart, with it's grey/dark grey combination working very well. The size is average as well, it's not too small, and at work I usually have it just sitting on my desk. Incidentally you can hook it up to your PC and transfer data and stuff. The touch-screen pen sits handily just about the top of the display, making it easy to reach. The simple touches are still the best.
Once you turn it on, you get a nice green light along with eight options, each represented by a logo, similar to those all to common Nokia phones. Here I'll go over the options you can press and how you should use them:
Scheduler: A very handy function indeed, if you've got a lot of meetings this will be a big bonus. Just type in when and where and this thing will let you know. Saved my skin on more than one occasion!
Contacts: Put all your friends contact details in here: phone, address, email, you name it, you got it. I find this a good thing as I can access all my friends info, ie their email address with just a couple of presses of the screen.
Memo: One of my favourite functions and will be one of yours too. Scribble things down and it will (try to) recognise them. Have fun with the rude words! Seriously though, very, very useful.
Expenses: To be quite honest, I never bother with this one, although I can understand it's use if you're going on long trips for the boss, and want to keep track. Keeping reciepts is easier and a damn sight more convincing!
Conversion: Just in case you're going abroad, get the conversion rates out to see how much you'll get. Thankfully also doubles up as a calculator for all those sums you just can't do in your head.
Games: Thankfully theres a quick game of cards you can play to relieve the boredom. I never play it, many because 1) Only clicked on it once, 2) Don't know the rules and 3) Would rather play Snake on my phone!
Secret: There's a secret function where you can store all your sensitive data, such as bank passwords and the like.
The thing I like most about this is it's sheer versatility. I think that almost everyone will be able to find a use for this. The display is superb, with a 160X160 resolution. And the thing runs of 3 AAA batteries, which helps.
All in all, if you're looking for a cheap PDA, you can't go wrong with this - it'll help you get your life sorted out!
