Pros: Volume control+adjustment+power control on speaker. Very different look. Period.
Cons: Fair to poor midrange/vocal output. No headphone output on speaker.
The Bottom Line: I really tried to like them, especially because they look "different", but looks didn't help their sound quality.

| hankshay's Full Review: Altec Lansing ATP3W 2 Speakers |
I listen to music and play games on my computer on a daily basis. I have been using a pair of Cambridge PCWorks 3piece speaker system which can be purchased for $30. These sound good, but after 3 years, I really wanted bass adjustments and power on/off on the speakers themselves, rather than on the subwoofer. I believe controls on the sub-woofer is not a good design, since it's advertised that one can hide the subwoofer out from plain sight, which of course, hides the controls.
Buy into other peoples opinions
From the reviews, I felt the Altec Lansing ATP3 would suit my needs since the speakers have integrated power on/off and treble/bass adjustments. And, I really wanted to upgrade the sound quality from my previous speaker set.
Simple installation
All cables are color coded and simple to connect. Clean connectors keep cables from knotting together.
Are three drivers per speaker better than one?
No. The ATP3 downfires the midrange speaker down toward the table, which created muffled vocals. The treble hit highs, but that was all they could hit. I didn't feel any clarity in the high's at all. Comparing them to my 3 year old Cambridge PCWorks 3piece, the ATP3's weren't an improvement in sound quality, more like a downgrade.
The controls are there
I really like having power on/off on the speakers. I feel it saves a bit on electricity and gets rid off any hissing noises. Also, the ATP3's have treble and bass controls. The volume is integrated with the power, that is, when I want to turn on the speaker, I simply turn the volume clockwise, and it both powers the unit and increases the volume. Not too bad, however, I rather have a separate volume control from power because I'm more of a set-it-and-forget-it kinda person. I want to be able to turn the volume to a desired level, later being able to just switch the power on/off.
There's no headphone output on the speakers. I didn't think this was important, but one day I found myself looking for the headphone output on the back of the computer, and accidentally pulled the power plug.
I love big bass
I just don't like the size of the woofer that comes with the big bass. The subwoofer is quite large, and I find it hard to hide. Other than the size, I was quite content with the accuracy and sound of the subwoofer. In my opinion, it was as good as my old subwoofer on my Cambridge PCWorks.
Not for me.
I ended up selling these. I really tried to like them, especially because they look "different", but looks didn't help their sound quality.
