arjunsr's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Jornada 540 Pocket PC
I got mine for free from my college (we got a bunch from hp). At that price it was still overpriced. I have a palm pilot m505. For some reason the hp jornada does not listen to you. You tell it to turn off. It decides to turn on. I change the options to turn off after a minute and in the cradle but it never does. The only reason i notice is that the thing gets hot (nice on a cold day). It has a useless jog dial on the side that turns it on when pressed. I have no problem with it turning on by accident but at least my 505 turns itself off. They also gave us a wireless internet card and it works decent but it does not work well with sites with a lot of pictures or wide pages. Sometimes the jogdial works for scrolling the page and others it doesn't. I have never had to reset my 505 but i have to reset the hp at least once a month sometimes once a day. I should have guessed since they made the reset button very easy to push. Not much memory but that can be remedied by a memory card. the button scheme makes gameplay hard and pretty impossible. Occassionly the thing is very slow to respond and i really have no clue why. Not worth at all.
To reply to one of the comments, programs that came with it was internet explorer, media player, word, excel, money, an acrobat reader, solitare, and a calculator. plus some sort of e-mail program that personally i couldn't figure out. As for battery life, they gave us a wireless card that sucks out the battery life. But the reason i was harping on the fact it turns on by accident and doesn't turn off is that it wears the battery down. More than one occasion it was dead by the time I wanted to use it because of this. It came with a nice usb sync cradle that doubles as a travel charger. Activesync is much more invasive then palm's hot sync which only connects when you want it to as opposed to activesync that wants to connect every single time the pda is in the cradle. The problem is that most of the time there is no change at all and the connection doesn't do anything. One caveat about programs and things included was this was given to us by our college and they installed some programs on it. I didn't include the ones that were obviously ones they included but I have no clue which where original.
