I have a SurfBoard model but it requires the NIC card feed. And you got some good software with it too.
All you say is true about cable modem. I've been on it for 15 months without any problems. Only fun, fun, fun. I recently added cable Digital phone and it knocked the rate down another $10 plus my phone bill with long distance is running about $90 less a month.
Thanks for the mention of those websites, I'm going to check them out.
