Pros: Small footprint, Reasonably priced, easy to use, printer port on rear.
Cons: No Character Recognition software available when I purchased it.
The Bottom Line: You won't find a better scanner in this price range, it even outclasses some of the more expensive makes. I recommend this scanner to anybody, whether beginner or advanced user.

About 5 to 6 years ago I had bought my first PC, & wanting the full package straightaway I purchased a printer and a scanner (this model because of the reasonable price, about £28 Sterling) with a view to upgrade within a year, when I had more money.
As a new PC owner I thought it looked complicated, but found the instructions easy to follow, & easy to install through the Parallel Port (cable included) with the Drivers that came supplied on CD.
Also included were two other CDs, & although I cannot remember the titles at present, the programs were more than adequate and they would probably have been upgraded now.
The first time using it, using P.S. Pro, I found it so simple, just selecting the resolution, the destination from the six available and then preview/scan buttons respectively, even though it looked complicated it was as simple as that.
Even resizing was simple with the cursor, just click and drag to the area/size needed.
The quality of the scans, even at a resolution of 100 is clear, sharp and very crisp. This also works well with Greyscale and Black/White scans.
Today I use PSPro, Adobe and a few other programs for work at home, on the web and in printed material, and I have no complaints about the scanned images.
I wanted a basic scanner as a first time buy, but I found that this model surpassed all my expectations, is still going strong today, and, as I lost the original driver disk that is no problem as they are still available from the website.
Most A4 scanners look bulky or have too many buttons/controls on the body, this model uses most photo/graphic programs that have an acquire from facility, is extremely quiet and takes up a very small area of the desk, just bigger than the paper itself.
