Your computer crashes. A virus has taken it over and destroyed everything. Your computer is almost 8 years old and you decide, instead of stressing yourself out, it's time to buy a new one.
Buying a new one is just what I did. I started looking on the internet. I looked in the stores. I read all of the sale ads and when I would find one that looked interesting I would go to the store to see it personally. Buying a computer is a big commitment. Stressfull one too. So I found my computer. Well, as long as I'm spending the money why not go ahead and get the new monitor. I was shopping for monitors and noticed they were pretty "pricey". I just needed one large enough so I could see and with speakers that worked. I noticed COMPAQ had quite a rebate on their monitors. It's called the bundle up rebate. $200 rebate if you purchase a new tower, monitor and a printer. $150 if you purchase a new monitor.
Since I didn't purchase a printer I only qualified for the monitor rebate. I filled out the rebate form and at the bottom I read in small print " Takes 6-8 weeks to process" I purchased my computer March 3, 2002 and mailed out the rebate on March 10, 2002. At that time I figured a few weeks for mailing, a few weeks for processing and a few weeks for the check to be issued. Boy, was I wrong. Maybe a little "ignorant". I decided on April 15, 2002 I would call the rebate center to see where my rebate stood. At that time it had been about 5 1/2 weeks. So I called.
I spoke with a very pleasant elderly woman. she informed me they had not even received my rebate. I questioned her and she said keep calling back and checking. I thought it was strange they hadn't even received it. So, on April 17, 2002 I called again. Still had not received it. This time the woman was not so pleasant. I asked to speak with a supervisor. The female supervisor came to the phone I explained it was not there and I would have to wait 2 1/2 weeks before submitting. It could be lost. She also informed me that I could track my rebate online.
I was not happy now with the customer service I was receiving. So the next day I decided to track my rebate online. Imagine, my rebate all of a sudden turned up. There it was marked we have received your rebate and it was processed on April 17, 2002. Ok, a few more weeks my rebate should be here.I called again on April 30, 2002. At that point I was then told by a supervisor that it would take 3 weeks from the 17th to receive my rebate. So when the mail arrived on the 8th of May (which is three weeks) I called again.
At that time I was informed the following. The small print on the bottom says 6-8 weeks for processing. What it really means is it takes 8 weeks to process. Three weeks to print the check and another three weeks to mail it out. They should tell you that on the bottom of the form. I have since tried calling Compaq. I have e-mailed them and wrote them letters. To this day I have heard nothing. Not a word. I spend $1200.00 with a company and can't even get them to say anything. At this point it has been 8 1/2 weeks since I've submitted my rebate and here I wait. So to all of you purchasing COMPAQ computers beware of rebate advertisments. They will take your money, promise you a rebate and return nothing. Not even a customer service phone call.
