| gujustud's Full Review: Logitech Cordless Freedom (970044-0403) Keyboard a... |
Holy! Wow! Nice! Crazy!
Those are just some of the remarks I get when my friends/family saw my Logitech Cordless Freedom Optical (LCFO) keyboard & mouse combo. (yes it is a long name!)
Logitech has been in the mouse business for years, and from what I've gathered as they have always created the best mouse hardware. It seems that only a few years ago, they figure they'd have to put the left shoe with the right shoe, and add a keyboard to their already great product line.
I actually had bought the Logitech Internet Navigator keyboard a few months ago, and was using a Dexxa Optical Mouse with it. I loved the Logitech keyboard I had, it was pretty much the same as the LCFO Keyboard, except, it was white, and not cordless.
When I saw the first add in a magazine for the LCFO, I knew I had to get it. Several reason why I wanted it.
1) It was new. duh.
2) It was black (and grey). My computer case is black and I figure it would match better.
3) Cordless. Something I've always wanted. My brother has the older Cordless bundle from Logitech, and always wanted it. I hated having my mouse cord tangle up or get caught on some other cables during a battle in 'Starcraft'.
4) It looks Great, Sexy, Slick, Cool!
I was able to pull some techniques at the local Electronics store, and was able to return my 1-1/2 year mouse and my Logitech keyboard. I also got a pricematch on the keyboard ($149 to $129), and with the credit from my older accessories, final figure was $76. Great deal!
The box came with 6 AA batteries (2 for mouse, 4 for keyboard). A wrist support also comes that connects to the keyboard, that is a definte plus! Installation was smooth, plug in, Win2000pro found the drivers right away. Threw in the CD and install the itouch software, and was ready to go.
It didn't take me long to set things up, because, as I had previously mentioned, I had the similiar keyboard and knew how to setup the iTouch software.
The Keyboard:
What is iTouch? Well its pretty much extra buttons that are located on the top and side of the keyboard, that allow one touch access to ANY programs, websites, or any other tasks. Along with the iTouch, is a media center, located in the middle top of the keyboard. This gives again, one touch access to your media programs (winamp, media player, real player), and has a mute button, and also a round spinning key that controls volume, very cool.
I guess the best feature of iTouch that I use is the iNav wheel on the left side of the keyboard. Not only do you get a scrolling wheel on the mouse, but also on the left side of the keyboard. This GREATLY speeds up navigation on the computer along with that on the mouse, because you can customise what you want EACH scrolling wheel to do.
Next to the iNav wheel on the keyboard, is also a GO button. Pressing this button, pulls up a small window in the middle of your screen that has 'http://www.' waiting. All you have to do is type in the rest of a website address you want to goto, press enter, and away you goto your site. Another GREAT feature that I use tons, because it saves time having to double click on IE icon, then type in the address.
Yeah it may seem like I'm being picky about a few seconds here and there, but the amount of time that you actually save is amazing.
The Mouse:
The mouse is actually quite nice. I wouldn't say its the BEST looking mouse, but it defintely is nice. A few things that I like is obviously the scrolling wheel. The mouse has a total of 3/4 buttons. there are 2 main buttons, one button where your thumb is, and the scroll can be press down as the 4th button (thats why I call is 3/4).
The only thing I didn't like about the mouse, is not having a real 4th button on the right side of the mouse. My Dexxa Optical mouse had 4 buttons. I really liked this, because I could set them up as foward/back buttons for IE, which speed up navigation inside of IE. Its not a big thing, but a little bit of a change.
The manual states that the mouse has 2-3 months of battery power, which I guess is okay. I'd say the only odd thing about this, is that if I come back to my computer (being either off or on) and I look at the mouse, I can see the Optical LCD flashing lightly inside. I'd figure this would be a serious battery killer, and would actually be interested if anyone else has this problem? Or of there is a reason for this??
Other than that, I am extremely happy with this combo set. Its extremely curvy, great style, and has great functionality. I've only had it for about 3 weeks, but have had zero problems so far. If I get any more info about the mouse, I'll be sure to update.
