| blake2415's Full Review: Creative Technology SoundWorks Slim500 2 Speakers |
I haven't heard all of the subwoofer based speakers in the under $100.00 price category, but I'm sure there are others that sound as good, or even better than these speakers. However, I don't know any speakers in the $29.99 price range (outpost.com) that even begins to approach the level of high fidelity with a pretty substantial subwoofer system. I was totally floored when I connected this Slim500 system to my PC and felt the sheer force of it's tiny subwoofer pouncing to the punchy beat of my MP3's. You will not wake up the neighborhood with this system but they will play all day at volumes that are generally higher than most people play music.
If you are looking for a whole lot of music performance for next to chicken feed, then give these speakers a hard look. I was surprised to find no reviews here when I bought them, so I didn't expect much. So long as outpost.com has these gems for $29.99, it is the deal of the century in my opinion. After hearing them, my first thought was who could possibly manufacture such a powerful speaker system for under $30.00 to the end user. If you do some shopping, you will find that only Outpost has this incredible price. All others begin pricing from about $60.00 and up.
THe only downside is that the urge to crank them up to an unreasonable listening level is quickly limited by clipping and distortion, but then again, I did say unreasonable level. Most people that crank the volume to this level do it for pure satisfaction of knowing they can, but then the level comes back down, and these speakers work very well in pratical volume levels. On the plus side, you have a substantial level of bass adjustment and will probably like the fact that you don't have to turn the bass up all the way in order to feel and hear the low end. It's full, rich and pretty punchy.
I hope this review has helped you.
