The Bottom Line: I would recommend this drive to anyone who needs to save drive slots or who has only one drive slot. Otherwise, there really isnt much advantage to having an all-in-one.

The Ricoh Combined CDRW/DVD-ROM Drive functions as both a CD-RW and DVD-ROM drive allowing you to both burn CDs and play DVD movies or DVD-ROM games. For those of you with a micro-tower and only one CD/DVD Unit Slot, this is the perfect combination.
Installation of the IDE Ricoh MP9120A is very easy and the software installation was smooth too. The hardest part is taking out the old drive. Unfortunately, the software suite included with the Ricoh is rather poor. If you dont already own it, you will want to purchase Adaptec's Easy CD Creator. (5.0, the newest version is now selling for around $75 at Amazon.com.)
The Ricoh performed well at its claimed speeds, recording at 12x a full 650MB CD in under 6 minutes, and a CD-RW at 10x in about 10 minutes. The DVD-ROM data transfer at 8x speed is comparable to most drives, though there still aren't too many software titles that use DVD discs at the moment, so in my opinion the DVD speed is a non-point. (DVD-Video discs work just fine a 1x DVD speed.)
The package includes 1 CDR and CDRW (not exactly generous, but with CDR media costing less than $0.25 these days its not a big deal. Also, if you purchase it from Buy.com they usually throw in a free 50-pack of CDR.) It comes with a one-year warranty and frankly with all the upgrade I perform I havent had to ever replace a drive under warranty.
I would recommend this drive to anyone who needs to save drive slots or who has only one drive slot. Otherwise, there really isnt much advantage to having an all-in-one.
