| mosquitoguy's Full Review: Abit KT7 Motherboard |
I must say, overclocking with Abit motherboards is a dream. No more figuring out which jumpers to fiddle with and no more sweating over that lost screw (hmm is it on the motherboard somewhere? will the computer short circuit if I turn it on?). To overclock, all you have to do is enter your CMOS setting and set the appropriate multiplier/clock speed.
The motherboard has 3 DIMM slots (PC100/PC133) and supports up to 1.5 Gig of RAM. You can control AGP 4X mode, fast write support, AGP arperture size, and AGP driving control--- Quake players should appreciate this. :) This is surprising since my other computer which is a Dell P4 1.3 Ghz don't have these settings!!
This motherboard is a KT7E (not KT7) and has 2 built in USB ports, AGP slot, 6 PCI, and 1 ISA. Has connectors for case fan and cpu fan. It also has an thermometer on the CPU socket to monitor your CPU-- if it overheats, the motherboard will automatically shut down-- you don't appreciate this until you lose a CPU in the heat. :) The chipset for this motherboard is VIA KT133E.
So far, this motherboard is very stable-- unlike Elite Group MicroATX board (avoid at all costs!-- broke after 4 hours!). I also have an ASUS motherboard that's been running 24/7 for the past 5 years. Highly recommended.
