Pros: Great picture, controls, ease of setup
Cons: Not totally flat
The Bottom Line: Lots of pros and only one con. If you want a totally flat screen, buy Sony ($$$). If you want super quality for less, go with the G90f.

| saulturnedpaul's Full Review: ViewSonic G90f 19 inch CRT Monitor |
If you are like me, you look for consumer reports on products that you are willing to shell out some bucks for. That's probably why you are here now. Hopefully I can help you out a little in your choice of a monitor.
To start off, there are many great things about this monitor. The first can be looked at as a pro or a con: the G90f is not aperture grille. This translates into no annoying damper wires that stretch across the screen (you may not even know what I'm talking about, but they are bad news, trust me.) The picture is a high quality Invar Shadow Mask, and I stress high quality. It has a maximum resolution of 1600x1200 which is totally flicker-free. Because of the 18" viewing area and its quality, you don't even have to squint the resolution is so fine. I was impressed by this.
The controls on the G90f are wonderful too. They are simple, which is very important, and include more than the necessary features. I had no problem adjusting mine out of the box, it took about 2 minutes.
Though the monitor is large and heavy, it has a suprisingly small footprint of about 8 inches in diameter. I was expecting a foot or so.
The monitor looks nice. I got the G90fb (black version) so it goes especially well with my black case, keyboard, speakers, etc.
This is what may make some of you happy: The price tag. I got the monitor for $205 at Page Computers (www.pagecomputers.com). Of course with shipping it amounted to exactly $240.00, but that's less than it is anywhere else online or in the stores as of 12/31/02. Of course it will probably get cheaper.
Those are pretty much the good things about the monitor. Now for the bad.
To potential buyers looking for a completely flat screen monitor, THE G90f ISN'T TOTALLY FLAT.
They market it as so, in the line of ViewSonic's PerfectFlat technology, but it is merely the glass ontop of the actual tube that is flat. The tube itself is less curved than a standard 19", it is very slight, but still evident. There is what seems to be about a 1/4" gap between the flat glass and the actual tube, so it appears as if the tube is sitting back to allow for the curvature. Its kind of annoying at first, but this doesn't hamper the picture quality AT ALL. I don't notice it now, and after a few days, I anticipate you will too.
I am very happy with my purchase because of the price and the high image quality along with reduced glare and a sleek case color (black). It was worth it. Just to let you know, I am a gamer and graphic artist. It is wonderful for both uses, so don't discount it because the tube isn't totally flat. If you do, you'll be missing out on a great buy.
