Pros: good specs overall, nice price, reliable (after XP upgrade), good preloaded software variety, easily upgradeable.
Cons: puny memory, awful operating system, terrible tech support, must purchase lots of expensive gadgets.
The Bottom Line: go to a local independant PC dealer. You'll get much better quality, prices, support, and performance.

| cr12141's Full Review: Hewlett Packard Pavilion 7850C (P2940A) PC Desktop |
I bought my HP Pavillion 7850 almost 3 years ago when it was a top of the line product. The computer itself is well made. Decent sized hard drive, good processor, nice number of ports and features. The memory is slightly wimpy; it takes almost a full minute to load Adobe Photoshop. My only real complaints are the operating system it came with. Windows ME is a tragedy. Bill Gates owes us all an apology for unleashing such an abomination. This may sound harsh, but for the most part of these three years I have put up with my computer freezing (every ten minutes on bad days), and several other major problems. 99% of these difficulties dissappeared the day I upgraded to Windows XP. The other sore spot is the people at HP. My previous computers were from smaller manufacturers. These tiny companies all have excellent customer service and very impressive warranties. The computer I had just before this was the best: someone came to my home to set it up for me, I could call tech. support 24/7/365 with questions and never waited more than 2 minutes on hold. If phone support couldn't help they would sent someone to my home within just a few hours. This warranty lasted for 3 years! Maybe they spoiled me, but HP customer support is a cruel joke. The people were always rude and condescending. They gave me wrong answers. I sometimes waited on hold for half an hour. After my 1 year warranty ran out I had to pay $30.00 for EVERY question. Once I called just to ask if it was ok to use Windex on the keyboard; they wouldn't say yes or no! They said they couldn't tell me the time of day without my money. Other than that the computer is great.
